Santa brought me a new stereo for my 75 convertible! I want to put a pair of speakers in the front and do not want to pull the dash to access the ones up there. I pulled off the kick panels on both sides and found a cut out on both sides that measures 4"X5 1/2". These were covered up with cardboard like material. The kick panels even have the little holes in them already. Has anyone put speakers here and is there anything I should look out for if I put a pair on each side?

Thanks,

Andy

I would like to do this too. Waiting on replys.

speakers for kick panel

i installed some smaller 4" speakers in the kick panels in my '73. the speakers were pioneer ts-g1040r. i had to build a template to mount the speakers since nothng existed there previously. i made the template out of aluminum strips that i found in the plumbing section at home depot. drilling mounting holes was easy. forming the strips was done with the dremel cutting tool. they hold nice and secure. i also put sound barrier material in the mounting box that consisted of herculiner truck bed liner (brush on) and rubber padding (contact cement). the kick panel cover fits nicely over everything without stressing anything.

you could mount a slightly larger speaker if you want, but i did not have the room on the driver's side since the antenna cable and wire harness were running through the speaker box.

here's a pic of what i did.

if the pic link below doesn't work (my first time) then send me a pm and i'll send pics of what i have via email.

there's also a nice how-to at www.corvettefaq.com on stereo and speaker install.

I put Polk 4 X 5's in the kick panels of my 76, I found they lined up with pre-drilled holes. I mounted them with metal screws and the they've been there working very well for 1 year so far. I had no problems at all.

Thanks for the replys, I will try to post some pictures as I proceed through this project in the next day or so.
