Does anyone know what the difference is between the '65 aluminum intake manifold for the '65 365 hp 327 and the '66-67 aluminum intake manifold for the 350 hp 327 (GM 3890490)?

I know the oil filler tube angles to the passenger side for the 365 hp and to the drivers side for the 350 hp and the part numbers are different (obviously) but I don't know the technical reason for the changes. I know the '65 365 hp intake (GM 3844461) was also used on the '64 340 hp engine. Is either one considered better? ;shrug

Any ideas why GM changed the oil filler tube angle or what technical reasons drove the change between the '65 and '66 aluminum intakes?

Thanks! :Steer

This sounds like a perfect question for John Z. I'm sure he'll see it shortly.

1966-67 manifold had provision for choke spring. Prior to this, the spring was mounted on the carburetor, in '66 it was moved to a recess in the intake manifold.

Also, the 64 and 65 engines were identical, 365 horsepower, and both used the same Holley 2818 carburetor. The 1963 version of this engine was rated at 340 horse, and used a Carter AFB instead of the Holley. The 340 engine also used the Duntov cam instead of the 30-30 used in 64-65. The 340 had 11.25:1 C/R instead of the 11.0:1 365 engine.

The angle of the oil fill tube was changed to make room for the K-19 A.I.R. pump so K-19 didn't generate its own unique set of intake manifolds.

Don't forget the 340 in 63 (L-76) used Solid Lifters, and until after March of 63 the BOSS hole was not drilled out. In addition the 63 and 62 intake manifolds were slightly different, the 62 had higher tunnels, thus the 63 Iginition shielding does NOT fit properly.
