I know there has been a lot of antena discussions...but I've noticed mine doing some interesting things. When I bought the car it had a broken tip, so I put a new mast in - no problem. from day one it had trouble retracting all the way with the new mast (the broken one couldn't re-tract all the way - as it was bent). Then this winter it started retracting all the way every time with out fail......Except, we had a few warm days here and there and it decided not to retract all the way....back to cold conditions it went down....today, fairly warm again....no retract. The darn thing seems to be temperature sensitive. Any thoughts on this one ??????????

Only one thing comes to mind. Expansion of something is taking place due to increased temp and contraction during colder days.
It's all I can offer:confused

Try lubing it with mineral spirits, or have you already?:Steer

As Rabbits says and 0000 steel wool

Mast Replacement

I have the same problem with my 94. How did you replace the mast???:confused

Mine 91 starting doing the same. I cleaned and oiled it with WD-40. Work like a charm for after that.

My 96 has a tendency to cut birds heads off. Have done it twice going down the road at the posted speed limit. Poor birds, I felt bad, believe it or not.:cry

I haven't tried steel wool and mineral spirits - I will give that a go...I have tried lubes like WD...didn't seem to do anyting for mine.

putting a new mast in is a piece of cake. You just take the nut off...extend the old one (turn on the radio)...stick the new one in and turn the radio off, put the nut back on. The new mast comes with a wrench for the nut. Your dealer should be able to fix you up with the kit.

A lot of people miss that, or skip over it, in the owner's manual for some reason. :L
