Well I purchased a spray can of interior dye (buckskin) from a local shop, but the can was from Corvette America. Well about half of the $13 the can cost sprayed out on the ground from the side of the nozzle when I was spraying a pillar post. So I'm hoping to get a refund/replacement from the company. Anyway, while that's on hiatus I just wondered of all the different types/brands, how do they all compare? Do they all match the correct colors? Does anyone have any other interior dying suggestions? Thanx.

HELLO FRIEND: -are we talking real Leather or just Vinyl upholstery surfaces? If vinyl then you can just as well go to your local HomeDumpo paint&hardware store (also PepBoys has a decent selection of aerosols, -some stating specifically for upholstery), and select your color in a lacquer or enamel preferably Matte or maybe in a pinch Semi-gloss finish (absolutely not a gloss, as is excessively shinny looks "cheap"-appearing). Properly pre-cleaned (using an old washed T-shirt)with Naphtha(lighter-fluid) on vinyl especially you will get a good chemical-bond; while the problem with spraying leather is that other than for just small touch-ups, the paint acts to clog the minute-poors of the leather (thus you loose the appealing aeromatic smell of leather). Be sure to shake any aerosol-can vigorously 1-min. (and you've got to hear the ball-rattling during that time), and the ambient-temp. needs to be at least 70*f to get good results; --and be sure to replace the cap, as it necessarily functions to isolate the spray-nozzle from fresh-air, so that it will spray nicely the next time you go to use it (even weeks later)! If your nozzle does clough-up on you, soak it in laquer-thinner within a small capped-jar. :dance

I've used the PEP Boys spray vinyl. I've also used other brands, including Corvette America. They all work fine. Sounds like you got a bad can.

HOWEVER, regarding color match, that's a different story. Your original interior has very probably faded, etc., so the "original" color may not match. You can have vinyl dye mixed at any large automotive paint supply company. That way you can be assured of an exact match. You'll need a spray gun to shoot it, however. Chuck

I got interior dye from Ecklers which was in the Corvette America can. Redid the whole interior in the CE with a compressor and spray gun, and it looks like new. As mentioned, just clean everything real well with laquer thinner or the like.

interior dye

I'm currently also redoing the interior & have to paint some of the new items such as arm rests, console etc. I've ordered the paint from 2 different companies, both sent Corvette America brand. I noticed at Walmart, that they have an interesting paint display. For exterior paint, they have the exact color code match per mfg such as 63 being for "camel" (GM) . I also noticed these people make a interior dye but only offered the basic colors. If they already have the specific colors in exterior paint, why couldn't they go after the interior dye market the same way? low turnover? Durocolor was mfg. Ditto for Plasticoat (see at advance) By the way , Advance auto is owned by the same ourfit as Corvette America...Auto Accessories of America. FYI
regards, Jim
