Greeting fellow vetters, i just purchased my fathers '84 and have approx 3500-4000 bucks for some perf upgrades. now with this in mind the car is in perfect condition for a 84 as i get lots of compliments. so my ? is what upgrades for this years model is the choice of choices? majority of the upgrades will be done by me and crew. thanks for the responces....blkntr

a few questions to start the ball rolling....

1) how many miles on the car?

2) auto or manual?

3) how is it driven (ie. highway, in town)

4) how much does gas mileage matter?

5) what kind of power do you want.... high rpm high horsepower, or more low end torque/ off the line power?

Those guys will know exactly what to tell you. All i know of is the X-ram intake.

I'll tell you this, i just finished building a '85 merc capri that had modified 302 that got close to 400hp, as i did everything from porting the heads to porting&polishing the holly 600. so you know what i want .......

People usually start off with a K&N air filter with a nice low restriction cat back system. Both are easy to do and relatively cheap. Plus, the exhaust system gives you an audible difference in addition to performance.

3500-4000 is a good budget.

I would concentrate on a few area's.

1. The TBI/Crossfire intake. It is way too restrictive, more suited for a 302. You may want to consider the LT1 Conversion that is available on the internet. That will cost about $600

2. The Ecm & fuel pump can be upgraded to meet new power demands.

You will have about $3400 for heads, hooker 2149 or 2151 headers (w & w/o air tube), throttle body, cam, etc. Mabey even a rebuild/stroker if you do the work yourself.

IMHO Ditch the TBI/Crossfire intake. It is too small and can not be ported to flow.

Or you can look into Nitrous Oxide. That may work!
