Is it possible to remove 283 head without removing the intake?

I just rebuilt my 283 motor and test ran it. It runs fine (very exciting) but one of the small oil plugs in the top right corner of the block above cylinder #7 is leaking oil. It is mostly covered by the head so I have to remove the head to replace the plug. Not happy with my machine shop right now, they forgot to use sealer on the plug. Anyway my question is whether anyone knows if I can remove the head without removing the intake manifold. I've never tried this before, but it would save allot of time and effort if it could be done. I'm thinking that I may not be able to get the intake gasket out to replace it for one thing. Is it wiser to just pull the intake off and deal with it? Any coments or suggestions appreciated.

One more thing. The engine is mounted to a rolling chassis, no body to deal with yet.

Sorry, gotta take the intake off. The intake is bolted to the head. You couldn't remove the head without taking the intake off first

Trying to remove it by undoing only one side of the intake is a sure-fire way of cracking the side still bolted up.

No, no, a thousand times no. :D

I agree with 67, NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO SORRY MY FINGER GOT STUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry man, you MIGHT get it off, but, I assure you, you wont get it back on!!!!!!!!!!! If the engine is that wide open, your only talking about 15 min. to remove the intake. :) Good luck!

Well, that answers that stupid question. Thanks all for the replies and warnings. :L

Studiog The ONLY stupid question, is the one thats NOT ASKED,WELL ya know what I mean???????;LOL

i have done this before you would need to loosen the other side where you have new gaskets you may be able to get away with this procedure, although not really orthadox. and you would have to be very carful when putting it back together that the intake gaket does not slip out of place best the stick it in place. may not be woth your effort. but being a flat rate tech i have done this once or twice:D :w :upthumbs steve
