Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

Is this an oil change disaster?

Yeah Mike, wish we had Bob on our coast. :L

Sounds like my kind o' guy. :upthumbs

His name is Gary, but he is winding down his Corvette biz. His wife was also very active in the Corvette club, until she passed on.

Oh, you're talking about Leonhardt, right? I'm referring to Robert (AdvancedAutoCC). ;)

I'm aware of a few good mechanics out here, and Gary Leonhardt is one of them. :upthumbs

Yeah, I figured that right out. I think it was shortly after finding out that my O/D is mechanically okay; merely has a control problem.

This whole experience has me thinking about my future....
At 46 and about to catch up to 47, lugging around 30-some pounds of camera equipment 5-6 days a week is really starting to work my nerves (among other things!) I've been looking into a lot of options, from buying some land and opening up a road course with a cruise in place like Ken's friends have :cool to a Vette shop with EXCELLENT customer service, Vette merchandise, etc... Maybe all three in one. :Steer :w:lou

Ken and Whale.... thanks :)

Vee... it ain't as easy as it looks (you think dealing with incompetent techs is bad enough when they work on your car? :D ), but it is rewarding to be sure. I've turned away probably 75 "techs" (gotta be out of work for a reason!) in the two years I've been open and remain to this day a 1-man operation. If I were to do it over again, I'd do it without hesitation. Best of luck to you whatever you decide.

That's the reason I change my own oil. I know how much of what brand, and weight oil I'm getting. I also know the filter has been changed, and not just wiped off to look clean and new.

Hib is it worth spending the money and buying Red Line over Mobil 1 if all my driving conditions consist of is just driving the car, and the normal "getting on it" ?

Probably not. M1 is an excellent choice under those circumstances--as long as you use a 10W30 and not a 5W30 and you're not going to use an extended drain interval.

I agree. Gary Leonhardt is one of the better independant Corvette techs in So. Cal. He's also one of the few with some decent LT5 experience.
