Today Mic and I did all the final checks, set the idle and timing, and actually took the Vette out of the garage under its own power! Did about a mile or two (tomorrow I'll change the oil and filter from the moly) and came home. Had to tighten the valve covers, and I've got a leak where the transmission line goes into the radiator (a new coupling that must not be tight enough), and I think the timing is too advanced, but other than that it's running! :J :D

Also did the new hood prop rod. Had to cut a corner from the existing fender brace, and I think I need to reroute some wires, but it's in and working well. SOO much easier to open the hood, too. Anyone need a scissors-type prop rod?

Congratulations Rich! :upthumbs

Good luck with getting everything dialed in now. I hope it goes smoothly for you. :CAC

Yeah, I could use the scissors prop.

Congrats on the 'run'. Now the fun, as Ken and I have found!

How did the headers work out? Did you coat them?? Pics?? Sound clips?? :)

Whatcha do on a radiator??

Whalepirot, you're welcome to the hood prop. I need to finish pulling it from the car (only the top is unbolted right now) and I'll send it your way (PM me your address).

Haven't coated the headers yet, because I need the car driveable and I wasn't actually expecting to use them yet (but the stock manifold didn't fit...). I'll probably have the driver's side jet-coated soon and do the passenger one later (and get a mini-starter at the same time).

Your radiator is still sitting here; turns out mine was fine and the heavy-duty one after all (and was just replaced right before I got the car, according to the sticker on it). Thought I had a buyer for yours, but he bailed. Want it back, or want me to keep trying to sell it?

Mic should have some clips up soon of the car with open headers... I hope to get the Y-pipe this week.

Rich-
I appreciate your efforts with the Z-51 rad. I am in and out of town so much that it's still more likely to find a home there than here. Thanks.
I really like these starter guys and have had NO starter issues since junking my former mini-starter and installing theirs. Their solenoid has a small vent for cooling, which is uspposed to help. Small biz; great repoire and outstanding to chat with. Guy started as a Marine Helo mechanic.
Very highly recommended. ------> www.hitorque.com
You'll find the price is quite attractive, too.

Ya know, I can hear Gene Wilder exclaim, "It's alive!" :cool

mike
