1966,and a 1962 thats almost complete
Boy how time flys,I still remember the night I picked it up at kerbecks in atlantic city NJ and the trip home on the Garden state parkway.

Anyways 3 years and 10,000 miles and its been an excellent car with the exception of a dead I mean DEAD battery that would not take a charge.

I had always wanted to purchase an exstended warrenty for my car prior to it exspireing but as I said time flew.

So I am just wondering how is the car holding up with other folks any major problems, with the way cars are built these days I normally get a new one prior to a warrenty exspiring because I am afraid of repair bills with the complecated computers in the cars. But I love this car so much I dont want to get rid of it.

Just trying to get a feel for anyproblems any one is having as the cars get older, and see if what every one is doing with the exstended warrenties

by the way mine is a 2002 convert with an automatic and the package that gave me the heads up display

As for "holding up", My C5 is a 97- so it is EIGHT YEARS OLD.

Biggest repairs-
- replaced remote fob (I think I dropped it too many times!)
- passenger window motor / cable assembly (just quit one day)
- dual climate control module (display went out- otherwise its still worked!)
- driver's side mirror (last time I EVER use an automatic car wash- it popped the retaining clip on the spring.)
- reprogramming the PCM because of the "low fuel" intermittant issue.

Regular maintenance-
- Oil changes
- Air filters (changed to a custom dual K&N system)
- TIRES!!

I drive my C5 regularly at speeds over 100mph on the Autobahn. No rattles or dumb stuff.

i know what you mean time sure as hell does fly. I got my 1997 in March 2003. Hard to believe i have had it two years. 2002 doesnt even seem that long ago but with 3 yrs you are coming out of warranty. These past 4 yrs have gone by quicker than anything and its hard to believe im graduating from high school in june!

Yup time flies, Now you actually have to start thinking about a career.

Ill give you my words of wisdom.

Find a carrer path that will always challenge you.If you take a major in colledge or go straight into work and its not fun and exciting, switch paths the end result as long as your challenged in work or colledge it will always be fun and exciting.

And the more fun and excitement you have the more sucessfull and fullfilled you will be.

I have a '02 1SC coupe, ordered and bought brand new, even drove it out of the showroom floor, after delivered to the dealer. Vin # 33893, so I think I'm 1873 from end of 2002 production, car built June 4, 02.

Absolutely, no problems yet, will be out of warranty soon as well.

I just bought my 2000 and it was out of warranty. I have a 30 day bumper to bumper from the dealer and I will use that next week. The brake rotors need to be resurfaced.

I bought a three year,36,000 mile, $100 deductable warranty from the Chevy dealer when I bought the car. It cost $2000. My experience with any Corvette repair is almost a uniform minium of $500 and up from there. I figure that three or four repairs and I break even. This of course, does not cover maintenance items.

The nice thing about a GM extended warranty is that it is good at any dealer in the country. They will even reimburse you if you have to get repairs at a non-GM place. At leat that's what the fine print says.

Time does fly - especially when you are having fun.

Are you going to look into the exstended warrenty ?

I went to the warrenty site

"gmppdirect.com"

and for some reason I could not get a price quote I kept getting errors. I am going to get a quote on monday from them on the phone. I want to get the longest warrenty possible but I really only need about 3000 per year for the milage.

I am not really an exstended wareenty type of person,Nor do I like dealing with dealer repairs but I dont want to have to pay large sums for repairs.

I have over 84,000 miles on my 97 other then seat rock and the gas gage issue I have no complaints. I drive mine daily and it usually sees over 100 mph from time to time. No warrentee If anything breaks you know who will have to fix it ;LOL

I have had it since august of last year it had 68,000+ when I bought it, I think the more you drive them the less problems you will have. :D

Get the Warranty. If something goes wrong you'll be very very happy you did and you'll save huge money. If nothing goes wrong (That is very doubtful.) you'll be a little PO'd you wasted a little bit of money.

Actually there is a lot of truth in that statement. Letting it sit too much has its own set of problems including; fluid leaks, corrosion, rodents, mold and mildew. Just to name a few.

Thats my 2 cents,

It must be a quality 'Vette! Your car and I share the same birthday!!!

BTW, I bought my '01 July 15,2004. Its a six speed coupe and I LOVE IT!!!!!

Hi Larry,
My '01 had three miles on it when I bought it in December of 2000.
It now has close to 44k including three trips to Bowling Green.
All of these mile have been pleasure miles. :)
My biggest problems have been rear seal leak, dead battery. Both of these happened during the regular warranty.

My wife's '02 Z has 23k miles on it. Absolutely no problems.

These cars hold up great!

I belive they're running better now after they have some miles on them.

I bought an extended warranty from Warranty Direct for my '01.

Last year, I spoke with Fichtner Chevrolet and he gave me a great on an extended warranty for my wife's Z.

I purchased both extended warranties two days before the GM factory one expired. No sense in having two.

I plan on keeping my C5s for awhile as I really love their lines.

Extended warranties are security blankets....they are a great piece of mind.

Three years and only 10000 miles? My 2 cents if thats all I drove my vette and those 10000 miles are "regular" street/road miles, I would not spend the cash for extended warr. Most any car should go close to 100,000 miles with just brakes, tires and battery replacement. But then I don't like to pay for things I don't use. Maybe I just believe gm built better auto's than that. The extended warrantee companies are betting you won't use the warrantee. You are playing their game and they wrote the rules so who has the best odds of winning? Wow this is a lot of opinion for 2 cents??? bye

Mine is unfortunately a "garage queen"; partially by choice & partially due to other reasons.

It is an '02 Coupe w/ all the bells &whistles. I did purchase an extended warranty only because the number of computers in this machine and how much they cost. I strongly suggest getting the extended warranty. DO YOUR HOMEWORK on what one to get!

From a personal and financial perspective I think if you can possibly get an extended warranty that you should do so.

These C5s are wonderful vehicles, but unfortunately they do break down and cost a fortune when they do.

My warranty is on a 2000 through Warranty Direct. www.warrantydirect.com I purchased a 6yr/60K with $100 deductible. The initial cost was $1090.

The car had +/- 19K miles on it in Feb of '03 and has 40,303 today.

So far, Warranty Direct has covered:

L. Rear Axel Seal $ 460
Air Compressor $1,108
Both Fuel Tank Sensors $ 886

Warranty Direct has paid $2454.

My out of pocket expense to date is $1,309 inclusive of the policy.

Needless to say, I am a believer!

One thing I have discovered however (and this is NOT a problem with Warranty Direct) is to make sure your aftermarket warranty is portable from state to state.

Some companies are not registered in all 50 states. Florida treats aftermarket warranties as insurance policies and therefore regulates the companies much more closely.

Good luck. :w
