UPS just rang my doorbell and surprise, surprise, they delivered my rebuilt carb and my drivers seat bootom that Al Knoch had to re-do.

On the carb i had it both rebuilt and "restored" so he also redid all the plating, painting, whatever, so it looks as good as new besides now hopefully performing like new :)

edit: here is the link to the pics of the rebuilt carb before reinstalling

looks like I get to install it today and hopefully maybe even get my motor fired up today and be able to check it from all the work I did in Nov and Dec on the clean-up project. I'm just praying for no leaks!!!!

I'll post some pics up on my wedsite in a little while so you can see how it came out. I just have to wait for my computer to finish backing up my harddrive before I can start to upload the pics on the website.

Mark
i'll be going very slow to make sure everything is correct. besides, after all the work i did i'm kinda nervous about finally turning that key to see what happens! will she start, will she run, will she leak like a sieve, did i completely screw up my car? ;LOL
I guess i'm going to find out one way or the other

Barry - nice suprise! You will be fine - as Mark says, take your time. When I was doing alot of work on the race engines, we would always stuff a rag in the intake when the carb was off. Before putting the carb back on, we had a very fine screen 'hat' that we mounted on the carb before it went back on the motor. You don't want to be pulling the motor apart or inserting a skinny magnet through a spark plug hole trying to find a nut or washer.

After following all of the many threads, I'm predicting complete perfection...
I enjoyed the entire experience Barry. Thanks for the interesting threads.

luckily, about the only stuff left is putting the carb on and holding it down with the 4 nuts, than filling the system with coolant so shouldn't be much to risk falling down into the motor. :) than again, with me you never know.

Mike, thanks for the kind words. I just hope it goes as smooth as you predict.

I hope you just didnt jinx yourself with that comment !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Barry,
You'll do just fine, Buddy!!!!

I'm the only one who could drop something down the intake, no matter how careful I was being!! :L

Just do as everyone says, and take your time.

Chris

thanks Chris.
so far only "semi-well done". I still have the gas line leaking to deal with.

Barry,
I would not turn the key without a friend and a fire extinguisher at hand. Particularly if the timing is not close. You may get blow-back through the carb. I may be spammed but I do not like Holley's. They leak.

*Edit*-Ignore. You have started a new thread here and elsewhere.

Hi Paul
I have THREE extinuishers and i had my wife keep an eye on thing when I first went to fire it up :)
You know, I think she was as excited to hear the motor finally catch and start up as I was.
As for my holley, it's a brand new rebuild so it BETTER not leak or I'm going to be a very unhappy camper. ;LOL

so far the only leak is the gas line and that's not the Holleys fault. Even before the rebuild it didn't have any leaking issues with the carb at all even tyhough I know a lot of people seem to complain about them.

Barry,

I have unfortunately experienced having a brand new rebuild leak (gush) out the top of the carbeurator. As I was reading through I thought "I've got to warn him about this and suggest having the extinguisher nearby" as Paul has already suggested. I didn't have a fire but it's pretty exciting when you see a geyser of gasoline shoot straight up out of the top of the carb while your cranking the ignition! What's the problem you are having with the leak in the gas line?

Hi Terry
if you look thru my other thread called "about to fire, please double check me" it's explained in detail.
Basically it's a slight dripping out of one of the fittings from the fuel filter to the gas hardline that goes down to the fuel pump.
i just removed everything, cleaned up all the threads, put some plumbers tape on the threads just as an added precaution, and reassembled it again. As soon as Linda wakes up i'll start the car again to check to see if I fixed it. Hopefully I got it this time because if not i don't know too many more options to fix it.
At least it wasn't a leak from the newly rebuilt carb or else I would have been a very unhappy camper!
