O.K. After much conversation about the pros and cons of it I've deceided to place my 93 on Jack stands for the winter. What are the proper placement of the stands so I don't damage my baby? Do I jack one side first, place the stands and then the other side or do I go front then rear? Help! :crazy I' m new to this.

I always jack the front first, with a floorjack at the crossmember, and then the rear, with a floorjack at the differential, then place the jackstands at each of the factory lift points.

It is possible to lift the car high enough one side at a time, but you wouldn't be able to easily get the jackstands at all four lift points. You can, but it's difficult. It's much easier to lift it front and rear two wheels at a time. ;)

Whatever you do, BE SURE TO BLOCK THE WHEELS BEFORE LIFTING EITHER THE FRONT OR THE REAR OF THE CAR.

Ken's right DON"T trust the Vette's E Brake or Park selection block the tires. I nearly found that out the hard way...

Im putting mine on Jack Stands as well pbly this weekend (I need to buy 2 more) for storage but to work on it as well. My dad bought a Large 220V Lincoln Arc welder and Im gonna go to town on my exhaust for the last time... (Serious bad luck with Vette Exhaust)

It'll also allow me to finally finish work my my clutch hydrualic system, Fix 2 leaks and to take a general look around down there.

this is also the time for me to do Ken's idea for the 4+3 Transmission swith modification.

One thing I wish I could do is remove the hood. I wanted to start
"chainsawing" under the hood to remove any systems I want gone and to repair/restore any sytem I wanted. Problem is the bloody thing is SO big I can't find a safe place for it hehe.

One caveat here. If you guys are thinking of storing your Vette over the winter with the wheels off the ground, it might be a good idea to remove the wheels and tires as the weight of them might disturb your suspension. I'm sure I read that somewhere but I can't find it right now. :eyerole

I agree Ken ..take the wheels off less strain on everything. I put mine up on stand a week ago. Ready for whatever it needs along with the cleaning.
Also i had to Jack mine from the sides first. No room to pump the jack when its under the front.:(

Just drive up on a couple of 2x4s Dave, that's what I just did about two hours ago. ;)

I can't get a floor jack under the lifting points on the sides of the car because of the extensions that were bolted there when we installed the Side Effects system; it's too low, so I have to go in from the front. If I don't use my ramps I just use a couple of 2x4s under the front tires and that gets it high enough to get the floorjack under the crossmember.

My winter storage procedures consist of nothing more than cancelling part of my insurance coverage. The wheels are on, the tires are on the ground and the keys are in the ignition. That way, if the garage catches fire -- someone can push/drag the car out. The primary reason that collector cars in storage are destroyed is because they cannot be easily moved in an emergency. I have the luxury of storing my car at home but, if it were to be stored elsewhere, the same would apply
