car was running nice and smooth and i gave it a little a kick at the stop sign. it quit. it would not start back up. it would turn over and catch once then quit. it was done. i unpluged the the four wire distributor connector as an attempt to run in limp and it worked. it got me home but thats all it did. still wont run unless the four wire distributor connector is unpluged. anybody know what this is. my car is origional everything was working.

JJ this is a new one on me so will be interesting to see what is found out so keep us posted. Have you checked both plugs at the CCM in the battery compartment to see if they are still connected good?

yes they are pluged in. it was running exceptional. chirpin tires at stop cruisin smooth then i gassed it at a stop sign and it quit.

So you were able to restart it in limp mode?

check to see if you have a spark with the distributor plugged in..
did you get some bad gas????

I assume that when you unplugged the distributor connector that the car ran well enough to get home, but when it is plugged in it wont run at all -- seems like the HEI ignition module.

when it was pluged in it would try to stumble. it would fire once and then turn without fire. like it was trying to start out of time. thats what qued me to disconnect the 4 wire dist connector. it was running exceptionally well. just quit when i hit the gas from stop sign. it started to turn the tires when i gassed it. i could see the tire marks as i pushed it away from the intersection.:ugh

im gonna test the module. theres a procedure to ohm test it. why would it go bad. has anybodys gone bad?

They are a piece of electronics, while modern electronics lasts a long time, it eventually will go bad. Remember that it is 30 years old. I had one go bad quite a while ago. Easy fix.
