K&N install...the extra gasket

Did a quick search with no hits.

Threw in the K&N filter to the stock box, no problem. Then came across that extra gasket! For those who have switched did you pull out the filter box to install that extra gasket?

The directions seem pretty explicit, but I cannot tell if that is just for the '97.

k&n filter

I have a 2000 And i installed a k&n filter and a zo6 air box .I used the extra gasket

I have a 2003, when I installed the K&N I also installed a Z-06 air box. I used the gasket supplied by K&N. The instructions led me to believe I should or unfiltered air could get in around the filter from the sides.
