When needed and for the longest time I pop the hood and pull the right (orange) wire that's on the distributor...engine cranks, but no fire!

But I was thinking of interrupting that wire with a old style hi-beam switch.
Wadda think?

What is the Reasoning? :confused

So that (if) someone were to try and steal my car the rare time it's out and parked out of view...they couldn't!

1981 was the FIRST year Corvette to come with ignition interupt switch in the alarm system ;)

So if your factory alarm system is working, it will interupt the iqnition switch when setoff ;) I've seen, (as a matter of fact Rare has it too, previous owner installed it) a toggle switch just below the steering column that interupts the hot wire to the ignition switch. I taped mine up and stuffed it up under the airduct, my original alarm system works ;)

thanks for the feedback Bud.
The key word here is (if) it's working, at times I doubt it.
My thought was a "toggle switch" under the column is pretty easy to find and a common thing to look for.
But, how many potential thieves would look for a foot switch up under the carpet! (well until now :eyerole )

Hopefully, fingers crossed, we are among Friends and Enthusiasts here and where ever you decide to place your intrupt switch it isn't jepordized by what we post here ;)

Besides, you need to be a little long in the tooth to know what you are talking about ;) ;LOL

On my 76, since the fact. alarm does not work, I run my power wire to the HEI through the keyed switch in the fender. Just use the door key & it turns the power off to the dist.

i believe 76 or 77 was the last year for the key switch on the fender. it certainly wasn't on the 78 and newer.

i like the toggle switch option as it is simple to do and easy to trouble shoot should there be a problem. there are loads of location options that are out of the ordinary including locations in the rear compartments and under the seats. just takes some imagination.

Making a switch under the carpet will be a difficult job. I think first you'll need a place to put the switch which is easy to acces but you don't see it's the kill switch (like putting it inside your asstray in the place where the lighter is..) Second the floor of the vette is only like 1mm metal so your switch will be ourside with problems etc etc. Also under the lighter place you have enough room to put the wiring. :)
Just a thought.

Greetings Peter.

If you do put one in, keep the gauge of the wire and the heat it creates in mind. I did one on another car and almost burnt the darn thing down because i dont know what i am doing ;)

So, for under the carpet, i dont know, might get a bit warm during running the car, ie. the switch/wire being hot..

Hammer,

I heard about a work-around a long time ago (from a an insurance adjuster no less) to defeat the alarm system; however, I will not be the one posting that in here.

My point is that there are ways for a thief to snatch :mad our beloved cars, and all we can count on are the dumb ones to try.

An electrical valve could be used to shut-off the fuel system. The Vette could be driven for a minute or two before it dies off fuel starvation as the panicked thief decides to just leave the car there. I believe Low Jack works in similar way but different :L , and it was (not sure if it is still as effective) considered one of the best anti-theft systems.

I have a Clifford Concept in my cars, when you know how it works its great. But to pay more than 1200 dollars (euro's) for a alarm.. The primal thing you want to do is disturbing a thief from taking your car, of only a few 100 meters. So you don't need a 120dB alarm bell (i don't even go looking outside when the thing goes off). You need a switch of indeed a fuel valve.
Maybe the fuel valve is saver because when they start the car and i dies they don't have anything left to do in your vette. When your vette doesn't start maybe they take some "short" at your dash to start the vette in a different way.. Just think of it.

Greetings Peter.

Agreed...maybe a electronic fuel shut-off switch could be the way to go.
I'll have to look into that.
