My 1979 has a knocking noise coming from under the car by the wheels when i stop the car.I will go and stop fast and it will make the noise. The noise is coming from the left side of the car.Can anyone help.THANKS MARK

Mark,
Is it coming from the front or rear of the car? Could be several things, U-joints, parking brakes, posi hammer, frt suspension, you have to try and pinpoint the area first.

I think it could be wheels bearing the noise only happens after the car is driven and warm up.

I'm doing a set of rear brg's today off a 65 in New Haven if you want to see what they're all about let me know.
If you jack up the car and grab the wheel check for play in the 6&12 and the 3&9 positions and let me know what you find.
Look at the u-joints for rust at the caps or play in them.

Thanks ,iam going to do that today and a will let you know.marks

I am going to replace the tie rods, upper and lower ball joints, the rotors and install new wheels bearing. All the parts looked worn out.I will like you khow in about a week THANKS MARK

Front end rebuild.

Hi acman60. That's the way to do it, as long as your in that area change everything and it will last another 20 years. You might want to change the idler arm while your at it. After replacing all those parts if you still have any slack in the steering check the rag joint. Don't let anyone tell you to tighten the adjuster on the steering box. To adjust the steering box takes two adjustments, one adjustment on the worm gear and one on the pitman shaft adjuster. If it comes to that contact GTR1999 he will walk you thru it or send it to him and let him do it correctly.
Last word, as GTR1999 said, check the runout on the rotors.
Enjoy your ride, PG.

I knock, knock too!

Mine has started doing this as well. Its comming from the back left it seems. Only does it at very low speed like if im turning at a stop sign. Does not do it always. Might let it go til the spring since I wont drive much in winter. Any ideas what it is. It goes "knock, knock, knock until I get straightend out and get some speed going.
