Know of anyone who will powder coat a manifold? - UPDATE

I want to go back to the tripower setup for the big block and I had the low rise manifold previously powder coated. They went out of business and the coating is stained by gas. Know of anyone who, preferably in New Jersey, who will strip and re-coat it? It's a bigger job than I want to handle. I powder coat smaller parts all the time.

They can be located anywhere from Ocean City, Hammonton, Marlton, Trenton, Princeton area, up 206 through Sommerville, along the 287 corridor and around Parsippany, Montville and Montclair, just to name a few areas.

Thanks!

Mail order recommendations also welcomed.

Try This

Call 973-328-4155, ask for Brian, tell him you're a good friend of mine. The name of the business is Best Blast of NJ. He doesn't actually do the powder coating, he's a media blasting shop but he has someone he uses very close to Dover NJ where his shop is and the guy's work is top shelf. he just did an oil pan and a gas tank for a friend of mine.

Lou

Thanks guys!

Dover is right down the road from where I work and I also have a backup now.

Brian's shop is on Blackwell St. Dover, hope this helped.:beer

rowdy1...yup, this makes my day

john...yeah, that was the place that originally did my manifold...wolfie found them for me..

i wouldn't hesitate to strip and powdercoat this manifold but i just don't have a big enough oven....maybe after she does the kitchen over, my luck might change with a new powder coating oven and parts cleaner:dance

woah...still bummed about Rowdy1, hope he's doing well......:w

well, the reason why he was giving me help was to find a place to strip and re-powder coat my tripower manifold...

...ever have one of those jobs where, the more you look at it, the more ****ed off you get and finally say, to hell with it, i'm gonna do this one myself?...well, i did a resto on the manifold and the accompanying picture is the finall result, the passenger's side was stained pretty badly...here's a description of what i statred with ->

...the manofold was a REALLY rough '68 tripower manifold which i had welded, i ground down the weld and a few other bad spots and then i had it powder coated...the color is a silver flake that eastwood calls "chrome"....over the time that i had the manifold on the car, I had some problems with the original carbs leaking from the base plate and before i could correct the problem, gas soaked the gaskets and leaked onto three different sections of the manifold...well, the gas was now darker in color and it stained the powder coating :hb

...so, i just said to hell with it and took the whole damn thing offf and put it on the shelf......:mad

...somewhat later, i get married to the idea of a tripower again and post the query that Lou answered....but now i'm thinking that if i'm careful (powder caoting is only polyester), i can soak most/all of the stain out with 2+2 (or brake cleaner) if i'm REAL careful not to burn the powder coat with the solvent...after a few days of that brief soaking/hours of drying, it looked pretty dang good, i used a bit of krylon metallic silver on a q-tip to blend the residual stains and i've posted the results....not too shabby, dagnabbit.......

Hey John, thanks.

If you take a look at the manifold, on the leading edge of the rear-most carb (the left hand side), you can see a trace of the yellow discoloration. I'll need to finish that and then I'm good to go. The angle on the manifold also demonstrates that the end carbs have bigger holes in place than the center carb. If you look inside at the intake runners, one can see why this manifold would be more restrictive for the end carbs. The center carb has a straight shot into the heads whereas the end runners go straight into an obstruction. Time for a little massaging before I put this puppy back on. I won't go crazy, that's for sure. What I saved on stripping and powder coating will go a LONG way toward the new carbs. The carbs will need to be worked on also...I will cut away the back of the air cleaner support on each one and I will mill the choke horns. I HATE choke horns. It's the one area where me and Mark disagree, which is OK. I suppose I could go to a stub stack (for a 4bbl) which is supposed to bring the air flow up to that of a chokeless carb but I just mill the damn things off. Useless.

Don't know if you've been following my post about the tripower and JohnZ's data that shows the factory tripower manifold is mostly show when compared to a good quality 4bbl setup. I know John's correct but every time I see VNV, he tells me I NEED to go back to trips. The pressure on me is ENORMOUS. :hb

So, if things go well enough for me at work in the next few weeks, I think I'll splurge on myself for the next projects. Project Blow will be the Vortech blower for the liddle block and Project Suck will be the 500-350-500cfm tripower for the big block.

It feels SO WRONG but looks SO GOOD :grouphug:

The manifold looks great. Don't you just love it when a lot of brilliance and a little work saves big $$$? :)
