I have decided to build up my L48 a little bit. I would like to hear any opinions as to how it may run. Heres what I am going to do:

Vortec heads upgraded to handle .520 lift.
Performer vortec intake, keep the origional Q-jet.
Comp extreme energy 262/270 cam. (218/224, .493/.500 (1.6) 110 LCA.
1.6 roller rockers
TCI converter 2000 stall
Headman headers, dual exhaust, no cat.

I'm hoping for 325 or so hp. while still being a mild combo.
I thought about going the crate motor route, but the budget is keeping me from it.

Thanks in advance

I went a similar route with my '82 (see sig.). You will like the hp/torque and 325 should not be a problem. CHP built a similar engine with a stock GMPP bottom end a nd the XE268 cam and they put out over 400 hp/torque at the flywheel.

Good luck

Here's that GMPP 350 build

Here's a link to that GMPP article -
I've been researching a modest cost
build for mine, had about set on this
setup although hoping to score a
hydr roller reasonable. This story has
about got me convinced to do a
Comp Cams 262 (they recommend it over the 268 they used, saying it would do more torque in driving rpms without noticeable horsepower difference).
I was amazed at their final results with upgraded Vortecs.

Also, just FYI, right now there are upgraded Vortecs on ebay that are good for like .550"lift instead of the .510" like most of them - also have the larger valves, just a slight tad more than the other upgrade versions.

I'll find out the vendor and post here.

In the meantime, here's a bunch of righteous buildups with non-exotic parts.
