Was the L79 engine in 1967 and 1966 the same engine? Or is there a different cam?

Dave

Tony what accounts for the difference in torque ratings between the two cars:

'66= 360 lb-ft@3600
'67= 360 lb-ft@3000?

Dave

Dave- Looks like you went and did it, eh? I take it the LT-1 is gone- how do you like the '66?
Dick
P.S.- Happy Birthday yesterday! :beer

Hi, Dick. I did take the plunge. I found a frame off with an original drive train matching #'s roadster, mosport green, beautiful condition. It is all restored to specs less a few small items. I bought it several days ago, but it hasn't been shipped yet as the seller is rebuilding the tach.

I was impressed with the car mechanically and cosmetically.

This is my first midyear, but it's where I wanted to be for a long time! Believe me, if I had the money and the garage space that LT-1 would have never left. There would have been two vettes in my 'collection'.

Dave

Hey Dave,

Congrats on the 66, when I was looking for mine, I had a really hard time tracking one down in NJ. Was your's an in state car?

MC

Hi, MC, it was a PA car. I found it through a friend of a corvette locator. Where are you located in NJ?

Dave

Hi Dave,

I'm located in the Somerset area of NJ. Would love to see your 66 at some area shows next year. There's an NCRS meet in Cape MAy in May 14-16 that I'm planning to attend (after I join the NCRS of course) since I want the block to get looked at. Have fun with the roadster, mossport green is a great color, mine's trophy blue.

Sounds like a nice car! Interesting about the torque readings, I'm going to have to look at my resource books.

I also love the color.Who has a black book handi was that a common color or only a few got it?

Good luck and I guess we will see you more on in this section of the forum.

SEE NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A C2 OWNER and a c3 owner.
I have freind who owns a 76 C3 and says all the C2 guys have the nose in the air

There were 2311 Mosport Green cars. A few other colors had similar numbers.

Dang!, I keep forgetting to put my nose in the air when I drive the C2!

Dick

Hi, guys, I think mosport was only offered in '66. Dick, did you figure out why the torque readings for '66 and '67 L79's are reported differently?

Dave

Dave
Every book I have looked at shows the torque readings the same for '66 and '67- 360@3600 RPM :confused

Dick

Dave-
I'm thinking maybe it is a typo. It's a nice site, but I did find several typos and some conflicting info on horspower ratings on the same engine, etc.
I'm by no means an expert, but I was always of the understanding that the '66 and '67 L-79 was the same engine other than the Holley carb number. Maybe someone else could shed a little light on the subject.

Dick

Thanks, Dick, did you get my message about the LT-1?

Dick

Different block casting number (2657 vs. 8174, and a few 2657's), different head casting numbers (462's vs. 461's), different advance curves in otherwise identical distributors; other than that, '67 and '66 L-79's are the same engine.
