Well, yesterday I took my 81 with the stock two tone paint to its first car show.
Pretty good turnout all classes about 450 cars or so.

They for some crazy reason put my 81 in O class, which was compact and intermediate,1981-present. Which put me up against 3 or 4 (that I saw) newer vettes,a 96 c-4,two 04's and one new z06.
plus a 87 Buick Grand national, several mustangs and camaros, just to name a few.

Lot of lookers at the 81,and the guy with the 96,who is a veteran of many car shows, told me that i would take home a trophy.
I really didnt believe him, what with all the other nice and newer entries, even a 04 red GTO.

But needless to say.I took a nice trophy out of 3 awarded for first runner up,losing first place to a red (didnt look stock) 04 mustang GT.

The judging was done by all other registered contestants.

felt pretty good about that. My "old" 81 did itself (and me) proud against some really nice rides. later Ken

First and foremost, CONGRATULATIONS, thats awesome.

I did enter a show 3 years ago and my vette needs a lot of work but I was against some rice burners, pasta machine and new vettes. They called sportscar class, well I did have a great time but did not agree with the cars in the group. So now I go to the shows and enjoy walking around and talking with car owners.

Yes those all make shows can be frustrating. We entered a muscle car show probably 18 years ago and was the only Corvette in the stock Corvette class until a rather rough original 67 435 showed up that belonged to a friend of the show promoter. They moved us to the unrestored original musclecar class that was full of everything and gave the Corvette trophy to the '67. The winner in my new class was a frame off restored Buick GS. How he ended up in the unrestored class is beyond me. What really upset me was how much time I spent getting the car ready for the show just to be screwed by the jerks running the event. I never went back to that show again.

No wonder so many people leave these shows before the trophys are presented.

Congrats Ken! Always good to hear a C3 (especially an 81) do good at a show.

Tom, I understand what you're saying too. I like to go to the shows just to be there. I know I'm not going home with a trophy, I'm just there to be with the other members of our club. One show I went to last year, they put all the Vettes in a gravel parking lot while everyone else was in the grass, wanna guess how that went over?! Hopefully my car gets better soon, but I'm always going to drive it, and not just to shows that have big cash payouts. I've won a door prize at every show I've been in, and the trivia stuff works well for me too. It's just good to be with like minded people!
