I GOT RID OF THE FUEL INJECTION OM 82 AND WENT WITH A 383 WITH A CARB WHICH DOESN'T NEED THE RETURN LINE. IS THERE SOME WAY OF CUTTING THE LINE BACK NEAR THE TANK AWAY FROM THE MOTOR AREA. THE MECHANIC PUT A 3/8 BOLT IN THE LINE AND PUT A CLAMP ON THIS. THIS IS JUST TO CLOSE TO THE CERAMIC HEADERS FOR ME. THANKS LARRY

dont these cars come with return lines even on their carbs.
i know my 72 has a return line on the carb with a mechanical fuel pump.

I agree with Mikey,you don't want a deadhead fuel system on a street car.Get a stock fuel pump and reconnect the return line(most aftermarket pumps don't have a provision for one).Your fuel will run cooler and you will not have vapor lock issues.

leaking fuel line return

THANKS FOR THE INFO EVERYONE, I HAVE A 770 HOLLEY STREET ADVANGER WITH A CARTER MECH, PUMP ON THE 383. I HAVE 500 HORSES ON THE DYNO AND WOULD A STOCK PUMP PUT ENOUGH FUEL IN IT ? I JUST FORGOT ABOUT THE VAPOR LOCK ISSUE. HAD THAT ON MY T-BOLT ONCE AND THAT WAS ENOUGH FOR A LIFETIME. I READ THIS SITE DAILEY AND I APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP THE MEMBERS GIVE, THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE LARRY

return fuel line leaking

Are you running a fuel regulator between the pump and the carb? Some regulators have a provision for a return line.
HI, THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTION ON THE REG. I DON'T HAVE ONE NOW BUT I JUST ORDERED ONE FROM SUMMITT WHICH CARRIED THE HOLLEY BYPASS REG, AND THIS IS A INLINE REG. WITH THE BOTTOM PORT BEING FOR THE RETURN FUEL LINE. I WANT TO RUN A BRAIDED STAINLESS LINE BUT NOT SURE IF 3/8 PIPE THREAD IS 6 OR 8 AN. THE REG HAS A 3/8 FEMALE PIPE THREAD. AGAIN THANKS FOR YOUR HELPFUL REPLY , IT WAS APPREACIATED ALONG WITH THE OTHER REPLIES I RECEIVE. LARRY

Don't confuse a 3/8" pipe thread (NPT) with a 3/8" pipe size - they're totally different animals. You'll need an adapter fitting with 3/8" male NPT on one end to go into the regulator and the AN size you want on the other end.

THANKS FOR THE TIP,I NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET. ITS THE LITTLE THINGS THAT MOST PEOPLE MISS. I BOUGHT THAT PART WITH A 6AN ADAPTER. WHEN RUNNING THE STAINLESS HOSE ,WHAT DO YOU PUT ON THE OTHER END WHERE THE OLD RUBBER FUEL LINE METS UP TO THE STEEL LINE. DO THEY HAVE A SWEGELOCK FITTING FOR THIS ? THANKS AGAIN FOR YOU HELP, LARRY

Yes, they have a tube union for joining the braided line to the steel line.

P.S.- Turn off your caps lock - all capital letters are considered shouting, and it makes your posts hard to read.

Sorry about the capitol letters but it is a carry over from work. Coworker has bad eyesight It will not happen again. thanks for your help on tube union suggestion, I am trying to do away with all the factory rubber type tubing. Thats what I like about this site, everybody has really good ideas about problems I come across. thanks for all your help on this. Larry
