I need to replace the driver's side lower dash pad on my 76. That thing was a b***h to get off. It was already cracked, so I wasn't too upset when it cracked even more trying to get it around the steering column.

My question is, has anyone tried recovering the dash pads? I'm especially considering covering them in leather. Looks like it maybe tough. I found a guy locally that does custom dashes that says he can do it...but I'm not sure I believe him.

Welcome Trey!

Welcome to Corvette Action Center.

If your 1976 is custom, go for it!...I'd ask to look at this persons past jobs and see for yourself what he is capable of. With a custom vette, a custom dash would be cool.

you might try taking the steering column lose from the dash mount. on my 71 it had 2 bolts that held it in place, once these were out it allowed the column to drop down about 3 inches witch allowed the lower dash pad to come on out with out too much trouble. I would be very interested in seeing picture's of this recovered, the new ones are very expensive. If a quality job can be done at less cost this might be the way to go . robert
