I have a friend that just got a new 2004 coupe with Lemans blue paint. When he was out cleaning the car the other day, he noticed some deep swirl marks in the door. When you look at the swirls they seem to be deep in the paint, not the clear coat. Almost looks like someone did a repair and the put the clear coat on or that the metallic has run together.

Anyone else experienced a similar problem?

That's hard to say without seeing the paint. You might try looking at the surface and paint with a magnifying glass in a cross light.

If it were what you suggest, it'd be more likely a dealer repair than a factory job. The key there would be how long it had been at the dealer and if he knew its history.

Sometimes anomalies associated with metalflake do occur, and sometimes certain problems are only visible in specific lighting. I'm not aware of any problem with the color or any reason for there to be one. No one reported any problems with EB, and it's almost identical. If you were talking about a carbon fiber Z16 hood, that might be another issue.

I'd inspect it closely, take it to a couple of other body shops, and depending upon what they say, question the selling dealer and his body shop.

Fixed...

He took it back to the dealer twice. First time the dealer made it worst. They then had a detailer come in and he corrected the issue. It was swirls on the surface, not in the paint.

Thanks for all of your input.
