Well as my girlfriend says, when life hands you lemons stick them down your shirt to make your boobs look bigger. (dont ask)
In my darkest hour, as I contemplate the very possible loss of my 383 stroker block, rotating assembly, and cam shaft, I have recieved new inspiration.
I realized that I was going a bit overboard, I was making the situation way to expensive for myself. I was shooting for a 10:1 compression 383 that would destroy all, including my bank account. My horse power curve was going to be way scewed to the right side of the graph and the same for the torque. It was going to be a major pain in the a$$ to drive around town with an automatic trans.
In the light of recent developments I get the opportunity to start from scratch, and since I am no longer limited by what i can do with a 350 block I have decided to acquire the mother of all stock chevy small blocks. yes thats right ladies and gents I am going to build a bad a$$ torque oozing chevy 400. As i search ebay (the best thing to happen to motorsports since the corvette) I realized that a 9-9.5:1 compression 400 can be built pretty reasonably. And not only will it match any 383 out there but it will chew it up and spit it out. I figure i can go with a good set of world products iron heads and a cam designed to give me torque down low where it needs to be. And I should be right on the money and if I can find the right part cheap enough I can fill it with forged pistons and when I get a wild hair to go racing I could fog it with a medium sized helping of NOS.
Sorry for such a long post, but I am really excited about the possibilities here. I would like to hear from all you guys who built motors like this. Any info you all can provide would be much appreciated

P.s. even if i do get my 383 back, well you can never have to many spare short blocks
