Last week, due to some rain, I had to put the t-tops on my 78. I noticed that when they were installed, there was a "gap" of about 2" between them. They were in the holes and locked down tight. I would think that they would butt up against each other when they were on. Am I wrong? If not, I wonder what year these (mirror coated) t-tops actually fit. It's not a big deal as I plan on replacing them next year anyway (they have cracks in the outer glass). Just seemed curious to me.

Mine have the same thing. I dont believe they were meant to fit tight together. As long as the weatherstripping is good, rain will run in between them (and around) and run through the water channel off the car. You're not getting any leaks are you ?
If i picture mine correctly, it's not 2" but there is definitly a gap (through the middle and to the back).

No leaks. I drove 'er through a good MidWest gully washer and stayed dry as toast. It just like weird engineering to have that gap. I double checked and the hardware on the tops is right where it should be in the frame. Everything lines up fine. Oh well.

Just got back from another $300 trip to the shop. The boss has told me that if it needs anymore major repairs this year, it will be garaged. My budget has run out :-(
