Hi there you lovely people,

Havnt done a great deal with my vet for a few months,

Turned it on the other day, started fine, sounded great but the dash has gone out!!!!!!

There was a flicker, lit up with a few bits missing then went black, car runs fine but no display.

Could this be an earth problem??????? please tell me this is something simple to fix.

Cheers

update

car has been a bit damp over the last few months with this crappy english weather!!!!!

Had a warm air heater in it for most of the day, just unplugged it and turned the ignition key to do the window up again and the dash came back!!!!! and the fasten seat belt light lit up in the display which has never happened, can damp stop this much stuff working???????????

Has anyone else had this problem?

Cheers

Dust will absorb moisture. The circuit boards on the dash may have dust on then that got damp. Solution,, drive it more.:L just my theory.;shrug

My 88 did the same thing and I had to replace the whole instrument cluster......400.00 thru www.fparts.com

Earths

There are a lot of threads that you can access with the 'search' tab above. Our terminology is a little different so do a search for 'ground' and dash board to find a wealth of information on intermittent 'earths'
Your drying with a heater was a smart move!

One thing about these older cars, and especially the C4 with all its electronics, their age makes them more susceptible to moisture related gremlins against their electronics. It sounds like the car's been left outside in the rain a lot....and it's a convertible. Not the best place to store such a car at its age. My personal theory is that your electrical connections on your dashboard need to be inspected, cleaned, and any worn parts (due to time) be replaced. Also, you may look into replacing the weather stripping throughout your 'Vette. The specialized US online catalogs such as Ecklers and Mid-America have complete weather stripping kits for all years of Corvettes (cost will run in the $500 range I think). This is especially important since the car has to endure lots of wet weather. Outside of that, maybe keep a weather proof but breathable cover over the car to keep it dry, or a heated garage.
