The wife and I went out for a cruise last Sunday and stopped at out favorite BBQ place on the way home. When we left the Active Handling and ABS lights didn't go out and the DIC gave me the Service need on those to items. Called Terry LaBonte Chevy here on Greensboro and took it in for service. Rep called me the next morning and said he had bad news and good news. The bad news was the Brake Control Module had gone belly up and the new part was almost $1000. The good news was he had made some calls and GM would Wty the problem since the wty went out last month and my Vette only has 18000 miles. The next day I was on the road again, I couldn't thank them enough.
Has anyone else had this problem????

Have not had the problem, but :upthumbs to their Chevy service department.

I have a very good one locally, but hear many service horror stories and complaints. Nice to know of some doing a good job. Was it also a Cadillac dealership by chance? My local Chevy dealer is, and I wonder if that carries over.

Are you telling me that you didn't purchase an extended warranty?:W

04Torch has a point: you should really look into an extended warrantee, or the next "service engine soon" message could cost you lots.

ZZ, Terry Labonte is just a Chevy dealer, the service department is great.

I had given an extended wty some thought and now I'm thinking about it even more.

The extended warranty is well worth it. Consider that "any" dealer in the nation (should you be traveling) would honor and fix any problem.

Last year I purchased a '96 and every repair seemed to start at $500 and go up. And I did not do anything major like a clutch or brakes. While your car is only a few years old and low mileage, it only takes one or two expensive repairs to let the air out of your savings account. It was the experience with the '96 that convinced me to buy a low mileage C5 and get the extended warranty.

I got my extended Warranty throught the Credit Union when I bought the car.
One night the horn took off in a solid blast. I pulled the horn fuse (#11 I believe) and took it to the dealer the next day thinking it was only a $25 horn pad. It was the horn pad okay, however, the horn pad was apart of the Drivers Airbag Module which had to be replace to the tune of $900. The warranty covered it. When you play with a Corvette your'e playing with fire, and sooner or later I know I'm gonna get burned...just a matter of time. No wonder Vette people wave to each other.....because we know we are all in the same expensive boat together. Sad but true.

I read thru the postings and thought I should throw my 2 cents worth in.

1- If you are going to get an extended wty read the fine print. Some require you pay for the repair, if it is not being repaired at an "authorized" dealer, and then they reimburse you, and most require preapproval before the repairs begin.

2 - What is the cost of the extended wty. Both of the repairs mentioned above are in the $1000.00 range. If you get a several year wty I would have to say the wty price is at least double the cost of either above cost. Espcially if you are a low mileage driver you need that long time frame to make it worthwhile

I think you are better off putting $2,000.00 in the bank and saving for that rainy day.

I got the GMPP for 3 years when I got my Corvette. If anything, I have the peace of mind knowing it's covered, especially on a used, pre-owned vette.

True, which is why the consensus opinion appears to be that the GMPP extended warranty is a wise choice, because all Chevrolet dealers a considered "authorized" no matter where you are.

Where I part company with you on this is in the notion that major repairs are only ever going to be in the $1,000 range. If, for example, the PCM is damaged due to dripping battery acid, or you have a transmission that fails for some reason and has to be replaced, you're looking at a lot more than $1,000.

Even if the repairs average $1,000, if you end up with one "major" repair a year for four years, you've already covered the cost of the GMPP. I'd call that peace of mind.

I suppose that's a solution, but it isn't one I'd subscribe to. A serious electronic system repair could blow through that $2,000 plus any interest you've earned in a serious hurry. Then what?
