I need some assistance in figuring out how the door lock knob goes back on the door lock on the inside drivers door of my 74. When i closed the door the other day, the lock knob and lock knob clip fell into the floorboard seperately. i have tried to put them back on the lock but fail to do so. i found this photo on the internet. comparing it to my car, i recognize that i do not have the snap ring? (the circle looking thing to the left of the green lock knob that the lock knob slides into) i assume that i need this to put the lock knob back on. when i do get this, how would the lock knob go on and how does the lock clip go onto the lock knob? sorry if this sounds confusing.

Assuming you have the knob and the omega-shaped wire clip, the other circular part is just a plastic wear sleeve that keeps the back side of the knob from damaging the vinyl on the door trim panel; it has nothing to do with retaining the knob on the spindle. To install the knob, assemble the wire clip on the knob first, then position the knob on the spindle and give it a good whack.

oh, okay. thanks JohnZ! now one last stupid question, how do i go about assembling the omega-shaped clip to the lock knob? does it go on the outside of the knob or the inside of it? if its the inside, how do i get it in there? thanks for the help!

See that grove on the knob? Thats what the clip slides over. Its been a while since I had that style. i recall it being somewhat of a pain.

First figure out how the knob goes on without the clip. give it a try a couple of times so you become familiar with it. With the knob OFF take the clip and place it on the flat spots on the knob...don't push it all the way. Gentle install the knob. Have flat screwdriver ready...once the knob is on push the clip with the screw driver. Its tight and you may have to apply a bit of pressure to the door skin to get enough room for the screw driver.
