1982 Silver Coupe (Sold!), New C5 in 3 weeks!
Hi Guys,
I don't have any problem with the lock-up function of my 700r4 not working. Just a question about the way it works... or how it is supposed to function.

Here's a scenario... I've got my tranny in "3". I'm going quite fast so my tranny won't kick down at WOT. But, if I depress the gas pedal say half way... the lock up is still locked. If I depress the gas all the way down, it appears to jump out of lock-up mode and goes back to "slipping" mode, let of the gas a little and it appears to lock-up again.

Question is, is this normal? What does everybody else's '82 do?

Also, at WOT in my car, the VOLTS meter appears to drop by about 3 or 4 volts. Take my foot away from WOT and it jumps back up... is this normal too?

Cheers All

Guy,
How long have you owned your '82? Has it always locked-up like this?

I guess, because I haven't owned the car from new... I don't know what to expect. I'm trying to find out if I have problems... or is it just normal!!!

Have a look at your volts meter the next time you go WOT. Let me know if it does the same as mine!

Cheers

Carlo,
Hmmm! Interesting!

How about the first question? ...how does you lock-up behave?

I really never paid attention to the scenerio you presented. I'll take her out and duplicate what you posted and let you know.

Carlo:s

Exactly what speed are you at in 3rd when you are going through this routine?

Carlo,
Just fast enough that it will not kick down to the next lower gear at WOT. I think mine has the same effect in "2", which will be easier for you to test!!!

Thanks

I re-read you post and I want to say KIND of normal. I don't have to press the peddle all the way down, but it locks up at like 35 MGH when driving through town and it takes SOME peddle to get out of lockup. I've only had the car for 2 years, but the first and ony owner said it always drove like this. I'm told it had something to do achieving MPG regs back then. I'll check the volt meter this weekend.

Clear as mud, huh?
