Would someone measure the length of they're aftermarket long [lowering] rear spring bolts and the position of the cotter pin hole? Then maybe I can get them locally and save going through the hassle of a small order from the Corvette suppliers.
Thanks.

Hey Dave, Love your site.
Years ago I put shorter bolts in my '74 with a sagged spring to raise 'er up a bit insteada' buyin a new spring. The spring broke soon after a block away from home. The end of the spring was on the ground holding the car up. Drove 'r back home that way. Wasn't too much of a problem except going over the curb into my driveway as you can imagine. Even more years ago than that, I installed longer spring shackles on my '57 chev to get it up in the air as was the style. Those springs both broke at the front on a burnout shortly after. That hadn't been a problem before. Lots 'o burnouts in that car. So nowadays I'm a little wary about changin' the angle that a spring is used to but lots of guys don't seem to have too much trouble with the longer bolts so I'll give'r a try. If it breaks I'll just get my Fibreglass spring now instead of next winter.

SPRING

Hey, if you are not concearnd about being factory stock,
you would be alot happier with a monocomposite.

I just replaced mine and they are about 12" long with no cotter pin hole. I got mine from Zip for 30 bucks but it included the new rubbers, washers and the lock nuts. It was worth it to me just to get the new donuts.. Dave..

Dave, my bolts are 6" long and my rubber are new, so 12" sure sounds like a lot. Would you be able to give me an exact measurement?
I'm hearing that some guys have had issues with too much bounce with the mono leaf. Some suppliers are now offering special shocks for them. There is one instance where I heard of a guy going back to the steel spring because he felt it dangerous. I like the weight saving idea so I'm going to try it.

You get a little more bounce but not enough to make that much of a difference. I think most of my bounce comes from old shocks but anytime you can reduce weight it's like free horsepower. My dad also has the fiberglass spring and his rides better than mine that's why I say I probably could get new shocks. I will get you the exact bolt length measurement after the race.. Dave..

To my knowldege there are two different length available....

There is a 10,5" lowering kit and I have heard of a 11,5" (measured without the bolt heads....)

Okay so I was way off.. Well you know I've been telling my wife that this ........................................... is 8 inches :L :L :L :L :L so I guess I have better get out the measuring tape on the length of those bolts.. okay they are 8 inches from the bottom of the head to the last thread. Sorry about the misstatement. I thought for some reason that they were longer.. Dave...
