Do you think the guy who painted it that way was patriotic? :L

he told me how much it cost to paint and how much he wanted the car for.. lets see who can guess... then i'll add some more info then you can tell me what you still think..

It looks like a good custom paintjob. I'm gonna guess $15K for the paint and he wants $25K for the car.

can anyone see a minor problem in the hood?
The srtipes in the centre are not symetrical? they dont flow correctly on the left to match the right.

Well am I right? Do you get a prize? ;LOL
A chocolate fish maybe!

Usmc

The USMC sticker in the rear window (first photo) tells me all I need to know about that paint job. The change is forever. BTW, I may have been a squid, but that's just a higher form of marine life. ;LOL

Just noticed that Iwo Jima flag raising air brush work on the rear. That looks awesome.

Looks like a small bubble in the dark blue in the upper right of the hood, and as said before the center two flames are off center......???

:D

What a great paint job....Im no one for custom Corvettes but that is really awesome.....

ok, for the paint cost MAC was damm close.. 14k for paint 24k for car,, the minor problem is the bubble on the top hood.. now what would you think this would be worth after I tell you there where dozens of those bubbles along the rear deck lid traveling up to the front upper fender.. the bubbles were bigger than pimple size.. thats just on one side.. first thing I thought of was I would sue the painter for a return on my 14k and what causes those bubbles??

A 50 footer?

So the bubbles make it a 50 footer? $14K for a 50 footer? So much money and effort for a 50 footer? I think I would storm the body shop like it was Iwo Jima!

Bubbles are caused by poor prep or contamination after prep. I also understand that if grease/oil is allowed to remain on bare fiberglass that it will 'migrate' into the fiberglass and migrate back up and cause bubbles.

My paintjob has bubbles around the door handles, from them using their hands to pull the doors open and closed with the chrome removed. Painter had passed away so I have no recourse and just have to live with it.

yea, i think the oil/grease would cause the bubbles. in the 3 paint jobs I had in 17 years I noticed Istill get snall pimples in a 2 inch section on the door.. I dont think it's the grease or oil but perhaps something else.. I am thinking of doing a blend in, and maybe try a different approach on the prep..

On the hood- it is worse. As the 'glass gets hots... the bubbles get pushed out from the source of the contaminant and they DESTROY the finish.

I had a hood repainted three times because of bubbles. I finally threw the hood away as the oil/grease/nastiness had thoroughly penetrated the 'glass in one spot.

Hey, at $15k & $25K, I was pretty close on both... :D

There is no easy solution for paint bubbles on fiberglass. On good old non-porous metal, bubbles are a pain but easily repairable... on fiberglass, it can be anything from grease (as others have suggested) to trapped thinner to... well, you get the idea.

If I were the painter, I wouldn't hesitate to refinish the hood. After all, with a custom job like this one, everyone is going to be asking who did the work. Do you wanna have everyone asking who messed it up or who made it right? Word of mouth advertizing doesn't have much mercy!!

-Mac

yea. i'll ask who did the paint, and what was the possible cause.. the owner of the car is a pretty cool guy.... i'll meet up with him again, when I show mine.. and let you know... but I wish I could learn to do such awsome graphics...

potential buyer?

I'll bet Saddam's kid would have loved to have that car in his collection.

Oh! Is he dead?

;LOL ........... :r
