With all this talk of 62's what about 61's. I have a commit on a 61 driver that a friend has owned for 10 yrs or so. Rebuilt front suspension, disks up front , engine rebuilt, trans redone with cross cut syncros to keep it from poping out of gear in third, needs paint (has from the day he bought it) driven daily, 2x4 327, aftermarket air, servicable interior and is a hardtop only car. Its all there but not an NCRS TF and am not looking for such. Are there any quirks about these cars one should look for. He had the drive line angles checked and aligned to stock is there something about this that is critical?

Hey Tyler after you purchase the 61 it looks like all youll need is a C5 to round out your collection.

I want a 61 or a 62 because it has the rear end I like except with a trunk and the absolutley most beutifull front end they could have made on a corvette

The C1 U-Joints run at very severe operating angles due to the tailshaft being above the frame center crossmember, which is why they have the rebound-limiting straps that wrap under the rear axle; without the straps, the prop shaft can ground out on the "X"-member if you "get air". Many C1's were built with shims (actually, washers) between the top of the transmission crossmember and the flange on the "X"-member they attach to in order to equalize the U-Joint operating angles; cars originally built with shims can have a driveline vibration problem if the shims aren't re-installed when the trans crossmember is removed. If it doesn't vibrate, no problem - if it does, all it usually requires is 1/8"-1/4" of shims to stop it.

I do have to wonder where you got the idea about getting a C1 from...

All I can say is I hope yours leaks less than mine!

You know what? I found that if you put the top up it doesn't leak so bad. Have you put wipers on the inside yet? I sure got tired of wiping the water off the inside of the windshield, especially when the water poured down my back when I reached up to wipe it off.

PS I always liked solid axle corvettes, even red ones.

Tyler, you just gotta remember to go fast enough and most of the rain goes right by!

I'm positive that by 61 Chevy made a vast improvement in the waterproofing capabilities of the Corvette.

<I won't tell anyone but your speedo gear only had three teeth on it. OOPS and thats the REST OF THE STORY.>

< The car is a convertible delete with a hardtop that stays in garage. Guess when it rains I lead.>

Now, now...the speedo gear was off by two teeth. In any event everythings much faster in a C1!

Having a hardtop only car can have it's drawbacks. :L :L
