My boyfriend's mom is looking for a C5 - but she has to be able to trade in her Toyota Tacoma on it and get financed. She still owes some on the truck too. She insists on a manual and it has to be around $25000. Any suggestions? We live in Salem, OR and there hasn't been much at the dealers around here.:crazy

The only thing I can think to tell is something you have probably already done.......which is plug in your desired values on Traderonline and see what comes up. There are a lot of C5's out there in that price range but not many in Oregon (per the search I just did). I don't know how far you all are willing to travel but I'm sure her future C5 is out there waiting.

I believe they have a "dealer only" search available so you don't get any "private seller" ads. This way she may trade in her truck.

Has she thought about selling her truck out-right and just paying the difference in cash? That way she can get more for her truck so she won't have to come out of pocket so much to pay off the loan. This gives her more leverage when she looks for a C5. With no trade-in she can look at dealerships and private sales and haggle a lot more in her offer.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice - She needs all she can get right now. I just don't think her expectations are realistic for her situation right now. :( :(

Personally, I don't think what she's looking to do is unrealistic. I think she's just going to have to leave the area to get what she wants. There are plenty of nice C5's out there in that price range. And, of course, plenty of pre-owned dealers that will be willing to work with her situation. She can get her C5....the question is, "At what length is she willing to go to acquire it?"

Good luck to you!

Um.....I forgot to mention that she is living on a pension. She wants a C5 with a monthly income of $1300. She has some other monthly bills that she has to pay off as well. It's unrealistic because she lives with us and we have to carry her financial weight! :cry It will all work out. She went to al local dealer yesterday that said he just got a 1997 in from auction - then someone said that it just sold - for $5000. Think there was something wrong with that?????:nono
Autions = scary!!!

Gotcha. Now I see where you are coming from. I guess that if she buys one, indirectly, it'll be yours (and boyfriends) too?!!!;)

Well, maybe she should wait until she gets out of debt before looking for a Vette. She can do it but it wouldn't be fair to you or your boyfriend.

Yeah, auctions can be very scary. You really need to know your cars and the ins-and-outs of lots of vehicles if you're going to buy auction-autos. A '97 selling for 5K?????.....something is definitely wrong. The engine alone is worth more!!:w

Again, good luck...hope things work out.

Don't forget the cost of insurance. Even for someone over 50, the Vette will cost a lot more to insure than a Saturn Ion.

You know what is really freaky? My boyfriend priced the insurance for him on a Z06 and it was only $100 a month! But that is because he is on this group thing with his sister. Being in the same household as a homeowner who has insurance with the same company as their car insurance gives enormous discounts. :_rock

Actually, insurance on a Corvette is a lot cheaper than most would think. A percentage of the premium is based on the history of the people who usually drive the car. Being that most people who drive Vettes are very safe drivers (because they are usually middle-aged w/ children) and don't actually street race these cars the insurance is unbelievably low.

I'm 27 with a clean driving record. I've been with the same insurance company for 7 yrs. To insure my Jeep and my Vette, I'm paying under $100/mo. Not bad.....IMO. It also helps if you have a second vehicle and list the Vette as a pleasure driver. I have mine as a vehicle driven 5K mi. or less a year.

"Yo, x-chick..."

I have some 'Vette dealers for you to search out, which have an awsome inventory of 'pre-owned' low milage beauties...

1.) Roger's Corvettes in Orlando.
2.) Corvettes of Houston & Corvettes of Dallas.
3.) www.Kerbeck.com (in Atlantic City ~ my personal fave. Look
under 'preowned' on their web-site.)
4.) Cn'V Corvettes in Tempe, AZ. The name stands for 'Chevy's
and 'Vettes.' :upthumbs

I'm picking up a new '04 coupe at Kerbeck in a few weeks and
have done my homework on the issue because I was initially
going to pick-up a preowned from one of the above dealers...

The one most important thing I've found is... you [really] have to be willing to travel in order to find the best possible vehicle and
best $$$ :v

One other site you can check is E-Bay Motors... They have
some great photos available and all of the cars are Car Faxed.

Good luck...
