I am looking for a good trans to put behind my new motor.

I want a trans that can with stand at least 400 HP still full auto with a little frimmer shift but not neck breaking shifts a everyday driver type.

As normal cheeper is better when you are on a budget but I don't want JUNK.

I want to reuse the OEM Converter I don't think I need a high stall type.

I read some were the 1986 have a 1200 RPM stall stock thats all I need.

I looked at Mad Dog Transmission but after reading there Reviews It sound best to stay away from them.

What trarns would you get.
How about those E-Bay trans are they worth gettng.

Good and cheap are usually NOT going hand in hand. I have had cheap and I have had good. Usually not both. If you want it rebuilt well and have a warranty, you need to pony up the money. If not, you can't go fast. At 400HP, I shredded the stock trans. Stock is good for 250HP.

Do you want lower price out today but pay more tomorrow? It is cheaper to go better today than to get "perhaps good enough" and pay more later. I did that with the TFS heads and trashed a good short block from LPE. If I spent more and got the AFR heads, the QC would have been better.

Get a good build from Rossler Trans in Girard OH. It took 3.5 years of beating behind a 383 before it broke the sun shell gear. That was constant beating several times a day. Same motor but the fresh stock rebuild broke completely after 9 months of babying it.

I'm having the same issue right now looking for a trans for my project truck (383 stroker with vortec heads). All the ones I'm looking at that will support at least 400hp are a pretty penny. Right now I'm leaning toward a company called PATC, somewhere on this site there is a thread about someone using one of thier overdrive transmission.

700R4, 700 Raptor Transmission from PATC, 700R4 4L60E 48RE 4L80E
