I'm in a bind and need some help.

I am in the process of building a stroker and am trying to locate a set of AFR-195 heads part number 1036. AFR apparently had a machine go down and haven't made a set of Chevy small block heads in over 7 weeks, there is now a 10-12 week lead time for delivery......that cuts into my summer drive time badly.

My dealer up here has no connections to get anything any faster, so I was wondering if anyone out there has any contacts locally to you that you may be aware of or can call and ask? I'll pay shipping etc just looking for someone who has them in stock.

Intake cut is 2.02
Exhaust 1.6
Standard springs
7/16" studs ( standard is 3/8") I can change these if I can find a set of heads
straight plugs
74cc heads

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just ordered a set of AFR 195 heads p/n 1040, 74cc milled to 58cc, L98 angle plug from these guys.

The web site uses frames and is kinda hard to navigate. Give them a call, ask for parts dept they may have a set. They are in OR (pacific time) 8-5 M-F; 8-12 Sat.

The ones I ordered are specially milled by them to produce a 58cc chamber. They use the same heads on their Super AFR ZZ4 that puts out 465 hp, and on their 500hp ZZ383's. I thought it was strange that they would mill the 74 cc head vs milling the 68cc head, but after speaking with AFR they don't suggest milling the 68cc heads as the shape of the chamber is different.

Check out this thread on the Corvette Forum

before you finalize your ordering the AFRs. I am having an engine built with the AFR195 part#1036 and had I known these issues existed I would have gone with the Dart PRO 1's. If you still want the 195's check out DougHerbert.com.

Good Luck

What type of problems are you having the AFR heads?? I am not aware of any problems, as such, but you have spurred my curiosity.

Cool

Glad to help

BTW mine came in today. Sweet. Might get a little touching up ... left over ridges from the CNC machine. Another piece for the parts pile for the motor build.

My $.02

I just wanted to say Sallee is top shelf.

Sallee may be top shelf but as the saying goes......"they ain't got none in stock". Tried them last week and they are dealing with the same problem everyone else is............12-14 week lead times from AFR.

If I want to drive this beast this year I need the heads by May so I can dyno and install and at least get a few months to break it in before it goes away for the winter......again.

thanks for the input.

That's the guys that I ordered mine through. They were ordered prior to Christmas & I was told last week that they'd "be several weeks yet". I know for a fact that they ordered a stack of AFR heads along with mine, so they may well have some available soon. It was just that "several weeks" that makes me think maybe not. AFR are bringing out a replacement for the 180 & 195 street heads late in the summer. It's supposed to flow even better than the current ones & improvements have been made in the design (better oil draining, etc).
cheers

THanks I was told that the order they have is on it's way and should be in there in about two weeks. They placed an order for 30 heads so they are one of the first ones on AFR distribution list for this run. I've got my fingers crossed that I can get my hands on a set. :)
