looking for past owner of a '61 (East Coast)
I'm looking for previous owners or anyone that might be familiar with my '61 vette. I've traced the car to the MD, PA, VA area back in the 70's. Mike Thayer is the last owner that I have been able to trace back to, but I can't find him. He never titled the car in his name, although he owned the car for quite a while. Back then this 61 vette had a 'shark' or 'anteater' nose and was painted a metallic blue, it was a road racer or street racer. Mike Thayer put an Eckler front end on the car and stripped the blue metal flake paint off and painted it roman red with white coves.
This car is one of the rare 'Big Brake / Quick Steering Cars' with the RPO 687 option. I have the 1972-73 registration sticker from PA that used to be on the car. Mike Thayer may have owned a car lot and may have purchased the car from a guy in West Virginia around 1971, we don't think it had a motor or transmission in it then.
The car used to be 'Road Raced' or 'Street Rodded' as it had a cobra type racing nose put on it as well as a heavy duty roll bar installed sometime in the 60's. I know it was painted Metallic Blue during it's racing years, but from evidence at the hinges and in the trunk the car appears to first have been white, then red, green, light blue, darker blue and now red. We assume it was painted a lot when it was raced.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
