Hi,

I am looking for a relatively quite performance exhaust system for my 1990 C4. I hear that some performance exhausts are noisy and can drive you crazy on a long trip. I would appresiate feedback from those of you who have experience with performance exhaust systems on noise vs. performance. Can anyone reccommend a "quite" performance systems?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

All the catback systems are very close to each other in terms of performance gains. If you want something quiet, Flowmaster is out of the question.

I've heard good things about Borla and Corsa. They're both stainless steel systems; so expect to pay more than a Flowmaster system. I usually see them run for about $500 for a pair of mufflers.

Edmond,

Thanks for replying. I checked Corsa and they do not make a catback system for 1992 and earlier. I have heard that Flowmaster' are noisy but they make several models. Some folks on the board have said that the Flowmaster Force II are nor two bad, at least when cruising on the highway. But it is sometimes difficult to tell if they are4 speaking from experience or hearsay. I will ckeck Borla. Any additional input appreciated.

I'm extremely happy with my PowerEffects. They're pricey (about $900 for an early C4) but are tunable (6-position baffles) and have a great sound that isn't obtrusive at highway speeds.

Hey Mike, I just sold a Borla cat-back off my 90 Coupe, The reasom that I sold it was, that was Very noisy inside the car, not noisy at all Outside the car. I went back to stock and DIDNT notice any power loss, but, My ears sure like the stock system BETTER!!!!!!:D

I'm told mine sounds good by people outside my car, but I can't hear it inside due to the resonance :L - it would drive most of y'all insane! Insane?? Who me??? :Silly

I put on a set of MagnaFlows. They are perfect. My convertible sounds great when you get on it but for normal driving you get a deep throaty sound. You can get them from Performance Peddler on eBay for $425 shipped if you mention that you are a member of the Forum. He was great to work with. Received with in four days.

Good luck

Unfortunately there really isnt one thats quiet and still gives HP.

Corsa is the only one that has a quiet idle and yet can get loud when you want it. If you want quiet, youll have to order this one, throw away the resonator, and have it welded on.

Borla, B&B, Flowmaster....all have resonance issues. I like them, but they are probably not what you want.

Power Effects is out of commission, they have been for over 6mos now, they arent making new pieces now or in a definite time frame. Good luck finding a used set too. I liked these the best.

Just checked Mid American and they have a Corsa system for 92 to 96 for $800

He has a 1990. Corsa may not make the "catback" system, but they definitely have the mufflers.

A cross pipe in the y-pipe is supposed to eliminate or at least cut down the resonance.
