1966,and a 1962 thats almost complete
I am all ready wired for back up lamps in my 62.

I had planned on a set of camaro back up lamps to be installed under the rear bumpers but they just dont have the correct angle,

I tried ones off of a mustang and they wont work eather.

So I am stairing at the rear end of my 66 and it seems as though I can take the rear back up lamps from the 66 and drill them into the inboard posistion on the 62 and I would end up with the 6 tail light look

Do you think it would look corney ?

I have shaired it before The end result I want with my car is to retain the classic lines of my car and just have it look like an old corvette with a modern paint job on it

Does anybody have any other ideas as to where I can get a set of back up lamps for the car?

Larry, while I prefer the stock look of the 4 taillights rather than the custom six lights that was such a commom modification on the midyears in the 70's, it doesn't look bad. I think it would be a good idea except for the fact that you have stated so many times you are trying to retain as stock of an appearance on the body as possible. Adding the extra lights as a 3rd set would take the look back into a "custom" look that I think you are trying to avoid.
On the other hand........ as stock as you are trying to stay bodywise, with the wheels, hood, and color it's not like anyone is going to mistake your car as an NCRS correct car anyway so if you can't find any other ideas than the six taillights may actually be your best bet.
Sorry, guess that wasn't much help but was just thinking aloud.

Barry

oh....... just thought of another possible idea for you. What about a single center back-up light like the '67's had? That would give you your back-up light AND still retain the correct stock look of the 4 taillights.

I guess I don't really know why you need to add back up lights to the car....granted they add some safety features when backing up and in the dark provide some light to see out of the mirros.....but given where and how most of your driviing will be (well, in my case anyways) I really don't see a need for it....unless it somehow became your everyday driver....,my 2 cents...I wouldn't add them.....

Larry,

No to 6 lights. Although quite a few midyears got the custom treatment, I don't think I've ever seen a solid axle with them...........other than maybe a radical show custom.

After all, you said it yourself -- "........I want with my car is to retain the classic lines of my car and just have it look like an old corvette with a modern paint job on it."

As for how to incorporate backup lights, how about the inboard pair that are now taillights, like the early midyears?

that's a great idea. leave it as 4 taillights but swap out the inside pair for the clear lense ones and convert those to back-up lights like it was an option in '65 and standard in '66

Larry,

If you are that bored, you need to start on a new project! :L I would not even consider putting them on. You got to ask yourself every time you are thinking of adding something to a car, what does this do for me? Adding backup lights to your old classic Corvette, really buys you nothing, and breaks up the look of the original rear of the car. I hated having to put the exhaust setup that I did on the 59, but I just could not get it to come out the bumpers like original. The new setup does not look bad, but it just does not look as good! Just as long as you don't turn ricer on us and start putting LED windshield washer nozzles and the like on your car!:L

My 2 cents........the added safety of having 4 tail lights far outweighs the added safety/convenience of having 2 tail lights and 2 back up lights. I travel a lot in my '66 with a fellow who has a '64. Folks have told me that his car is a lot more visible with the 4 lights than mine is with 2.

Just my opinion. I would stay with the four tail/brake lights. It is a much safer setup. C3 Vettes (with the exception of 1968) came with two tail/brake and two backup lamps. When I had my 1979 I was not comfortable with that configuration. So I replaced the inner/backup lights with stock tail/brake units (see pic). I scotch-locked into the tail/brake wiring harness so no cutting was necessary and the backup wiring/sockets were intact (nylon tied to inner bumper) in case of need for a safety check or the like. I could convert back in 15-20 minutes. As matters turned out that was not necessary when I sold the 1979 and needed a safety. I told a little white lie and informed the mechanic that backup lamps were an option in that year and my car did not come with them.

But if you are determined, the 1968 units might do the trick. They fitted on the rear valence and the angles might be close.

Thank you all for the responce, So six tail light are out,

I still need back up lamps, Ill let you know what I figure out,

My wife commented on how much more the car is visable at night with the extra lights as compaired to the 66,

I get it figured out,

As for building another project, I can allready see a 1966 with millenium yellow as I am settling down to go to sleep .I have one planned in my head, now I just have to get it to paper,

Larry, how about under the bumper, centered between the two tail lights, using a C2 backup light set or an inboard 62 taillight housing with a clear lens and single filament bulb socket. Not sure the angle is correct. It would almost look like the tailpipe bezels on a midyear.

Or... How about a 67 unit mounted under the license plate.
