Hey all,
Got a question. I too, am in the middle of doing a frame off restro. I finally got the last frame bolt out (broke 2 in the process).
Now my question: I ordered all the documents I could about doing a frame off. Nolan Addams documents say to make sure you count the number of shims at each body mount location for reinstallation. If I order a new frame, would I reinstall the same amount of shims? or would I have to re-measure the level of the car and shim as necessary? I guess what I'm trying to say is, was the shims used to level the car, or was it used to level the frame?
Secondly, I tried to find Yankee Ladys document about frames offs restro steps. However, the link is broken. Does anyone else have the steps?
Thanks in advance...
Craig

If you are buying a new Frame then the car will have to be remeasured to the new frame and new shims will be needed.

Hi Craig,

Colin is 100% right. The frames were measured at the factory against a "zero" tolerance for a body fit. The shim markings were then indicated on thee frame to ensure a level fit to the body. This was to fit the frames, which had production tolerance variables, to the designed level of the body mounts.

So any other frame will not necassarily use the same shims.

Take care,
Brian

don't know why people insist on calling the restos "frame off" when they are really "BODY OFF" restos

It's not a "Tire off" restro...

I think people call it "Frame off" because the frame "is off to the frame shop" for much needed repairs and power coating...
Your way of thinking: If a brake job is needed, it's not a "tire off" restro, it's a brake restro.... :L
This is only a joke, I agree, it should be a "frame off"...
11-20-04 - God, I did it again, I ment to say "Body Off".... I guess I have too much fiberglass in the blood system...
