The low coolant warning has been flashing on my 86 Vette. Checked the coolant overflow reservoir and actually overfilled it, but the light continues to come on occasionally.

Checked the shop manual and it said to look at the coolant sensor. Now my question is - where is it?

I've gone thru the manual and can't find the location.

Thanks,

Joe

On my 87 the low coolant sensor is directly below the filler, about 1/3 of the way down on the tank.
Its not unusual for these sensors to simply go bad. Try pulling it or twisting it a little while its in its socket. That sometimes will solve the problem. They just plug in/out with no special mounting. Mine does the same thing and is subject to being replaced if I can remember to ask for one while at the parts store.

Joe, Welcome to CAC.

Did you just change the coolant? I've had similar problems on two L98s (1988 and 89). Both times air trapped in the cooling system after a coolant fluid change. To avoid this, I now run a cool motor with the cap off, watching the coolant for flow as it heats up. As the thermostat starts to open, you will see the coolant start to flow and it may burp up some coolant and air. With coolant nearby, I speed up the engine just a little to lower lower the coolant level, top it off, and cap it.
