lowering kit

I'm having the (Mid America) lowering kit installed on my car tomorrow and after reading back through the SEARCH I'm finding that some opted not to use the wedges for the front ( I guess just eliminating them all together).

According to some, there was no significant (if any at all) drop w/ the wedges.
Does anybody have any clues on this as I am having this done tomorrow and I don't want to do it twice?

Can the wedges be eliminated?

Thx,
Jeff

check out this thread: look where i asked him a question about it: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59572&page=2&pp=15&highlight=lowering+front

it really depends on how low you want to go... that one is as low as you can go....

he talks about the stock wedges (those you will replace) and the second set of wedges. the second set are the ones people take out many times... it is personal preference on how low you want to go....

Update....

Kaluna (aka Da Hawaiian Punch) emailed me w/ everything I'd ever need to know about lowering so I am all set!

Wedges? "We don't need no stinkin' wedges!"

Will post some pics when she's done! :_rock

Thx Kaluna :D

Sweet... Da Hawaiian Punch has done a lot to his vette, glad he could help you!

I definitely want to see the results... I am still debating selling the 'vette for a convertible, but, if I keep it, it is getting lowered because it isn't my daily driver anymore

You could just give me the LT4 and get yourself a convertible!:D I'll even come to Florida to pick it up.:L

Jeff,

Why are you lowering? I just hope your roads around the area will still have enough clearance.

Ever since I put the KYB's on, my car just sits higher than I like. (I did order the lowering kit w/ the shocks so I sorta had a plan from the start although after the shocks I knew I wanted it lower) What I am trying to achieve is that low & mean look w/ the rear just a tad higher than the front. I expect to have about an 1-1/2" gap between the front wheel well and the tire. Right now I have about a 4" gap or so. I'm not trying to drop her to the ground (ricer/lowrider style) at all, just to get that low profile look w/ the handling benefits as a bonus.

Jeff,

How are those KYB's? Are they pretty harsh or soft or kind of in the middle?

I guess that "middle" would describe them best. Absolutely the ride that I was looking for. I would not have lowered my car the way it felt before the shocks, but w/ the KYB's it's plenty stiff enough.

I paid $135 for 4 from Mid America.

Coincidentally it's kinda like the Magnaflow thing...
Nothing comes close in that price range.

I've had KYB's on some of my past cars w/ good results so I figured why spend more for Bilsteins, Konis etc...

My mechanic and the ZFDoc both said KYB's get their vote.:)

Jeff, I lowered my 84 with NO wedges! It is on the ground now!!! It handles like a gocart.

I will never push it to its capabilities, so being that low really won't be a bother.

I just told my wife if we ever see a roadkill squirrel, we will have to swerve or drag it for two miles!!

Yup. It brings a new aspect to driving, especially at night. Some years ago, I found that rocks that slide down mountains don't drag too well. The O/D pan got torn and the tow bill was large.

The good news is that hitting that roadkill properly, which takes practice, wedges it next to the header collectors, so it is cooked and ready for immediate dining.
