I've been helping my boss with an interesting project...retrofitting an LS1 into a Mazda Miata. It's actually somewhat of a "hybrid"...the intake/cam/pushrods/rockers/lifters are from an LS6, but the heads and block are LS1. The problem is that the valve train is horribly noisy. The valve geometry seems to be fine (correct amount of lifter preload), but when it's running there is next to no oil at all coming through the pushrods/rockers.

Is there a known oiling problem with these engines?

Bill

I my self have not heard of any, but remember you have to make sure you have all the correct parts and have you checked the oil pressure. This design goes back yto the ZR-1 and there were never any oiling problems.
