This my 1st time in the forum, so treat me gently. I have a '72 LT-1, all option, including a/c. It is mostly original w/96,000 miles. I have two questions. First, are tt II's the only real choice for after market rims, and can I go to 16" rims. my second question is, I read an article recently that original cam in teh LT-1 was made for the engine to be able to stay in the above 6,000 rpm range. I got from the article that I should change to a differant cam for more low to mid range torque. One more thing, I've also read that I should change to a Q-jet carb. I have already changed to an MSD system. I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the CAC! :beer

There are more choices for rims- just depends on what you like and the size of your wallet. I think there are people here running 16" and 17".

As for your cam, I guess it depends on your style of driving. The LT-1 was designed to be a screamer, not much low end grunt- but personally, that's what draws me to it.

Are you having problems with your Holley? I had mine rebuilt by Holley's Custom Shop a few years ago, and it performs flawlessly. A Q-jet is a fine carb, but you would have to change your intake manifold as well. Hardly would seem worth it to me.
Either way, have fun with it!

Thanks for replying so fast. If I switch to 16" or 17" wheels do I still need to look for a 4" off-set? Anybody out there have pictures of their car with 17" rims?

Changing from a Holley to a Qjet is a matter of choice. You will have to cobble up a fuel line if you do change over. The Q guys all swear by their carbs, come Holley guys swear AT their carbs, but a Holley is much easier to tune and maintain than a Q imho. If your car is running well, why bother with a cam change? Why not wait until you need some serious work on the engine. Go over to www.corvetteforum.com and click on the C3 forum and ask your cam question. With any luck, John Hinckly or Duke will answer your questions. They are both great with this type of information. Both are as knowledgeable as they come.

The LT-1 cam actually has a fairly flat torque curve with about 80% of peak from 2000 or so up to 6500+. The following is an actual dyno run of the LT-1 cam in a otherwise stock '65 327ci/350hp.
