Lt-1 old iron vs. new-ratings

Hello!

I am trying to learn.

My dad was going to sell me a 69-70(?) LT-1 engine that was rated by the factory. I've heard that there were no set standards in those days as to how to rate engines.Sometimes, many of the acessories were removed. So a factory 350 HP stamped engine isn't today's 350 HP engine? Has anyone here dyno compared the old LT-1 to the ones produced after 92'.

Still trying to figure put what to do with it. I don't know all of the differences or whether the EFI, or any of the other components could be bolted on the old engine.

I don't have a Corvette, but rather, another sports car that deserves a better engine. The only reason Dad wanted to sell me the engine is that he didn't have the heart to split up a numbers matching 350/350. I want a good engine that goes fast, and would prefer the fuel injection. I wanted to compare HP ratings but it seems liekcomparing applesand oranges.

I have not intention on butchering the old LT1 350/350 so if that concerns anyone. I don't knwo that it is a specail engine, but dad talk about it as if it is so.

Any insight would be appreciated.
Rob

Heres the quick & dirty...

no '69 LT-1
'70 LT-1 370 gross HP
'71 LT-1 330 gross HP
'72 LT-1 255 NET HP...more accurate measurment by todays standards.

The '71 & '72 were basically the same engines. I think the only difference between the two was timing...

I've also heard rumors that these engines (especially the '70) were published with underrated HP numbers...for insurance purposes...

Just wanted to say thank you for the information.

To draw conclusions: heads on the old LT and new LT won't interchange and therefore neither will manifolds or anything else...including exhaust?
