1996 Collectors Edition
I have a 1996 collectors edition, fixn to rebuild the motor was looking at gm performance LT1 to LT4 kit (part #GMP-3287-2) they dont seem to make it any more and havent been able to find any one who has it in stock..
Just looking for feed back on best way to achieve the LT4 HP Torque ect..

Thanks in advance for any help

I used the gmpartsdirect kit on my '92 a few years back and I'm very happy. The link above actually lists all the parts you'll need for the conversion so you could put it together yourself. Converting a '96 would be a bit easier as it already has the OBDII computer and the latest Opti.

One drawback to the conversion is the tachometer in the dash. The LT4 and Hot Cam engines don't mind RPM above 6K but the stock LT1 tach stops at 6K. The LT4 cars, like the LT5 cars (ZR1s) came with an 8K tach. I just shift when the tach passes 6K now.

BTW, welcome to the CAC.

Thanx

Thank u for the info

Thank u Looked all over, Looks like they deleted the manifold any feed back on edlebrock 7109 intake

The 7109 intake manifold is an Air-gap manifold. Keeps the air coming in cooler for more power.

Depending on the heads you use, you might have to do some minor head porting.

What Edelbrock did was take the original LT4 manifold which is a good piece and made it even better.

I just completed the LT1 to LT4 cluster swap a few weeks ago. I have a 96 LT1 and built a 388 CID engine for it. Since the stock tach, as you said, only registers engine RPM to 6000, I needed more.

So I bought a LT4 cluster on Ebay and did the swap. It wasn't too difficult, the hardest part was getting the old cluster to clear the steering wheel to come out and the the new one to go in. It was just a matter of finding thwe correct angle.

It's a direct swap with no modifications required on the 96. Of course, other year Vettes may differ.
