Hi all,
Need tires soon.
Problem is the labels on the wheels are no longer there where it says something about "remove tire here" or "don't remove tire here" I forget which. Need location, I hope there the same spots as other cars. I was successful in having the tires replaced once without damage to the system, just afraid I might not be that lucky again especially when the labels are gone. Anyone might know or could point me in the right direction? It's a 93 and I get carried away with wheel cleaning, probably why their missing. Thanks!

The C4 tire pressure sensors are mounted on a large 'hose clamp' like band with the sensor on the opposite side of the wheel from the valve stem - at least, that's the ways it's supposed to be. There is a counter weight on the band that is notched to fit around the inside part of the valve stem.

The tires should be broken from the rim at 90 degrees from the valve stem. This is different from the C5/C6 and current sensors which are part of the valve stem. Most tire changes are familiar with current systems and break the tire down opposite the stem. If they do that on a C4 wheel, they will break the sensor or the band or both.

My tire changer always removed the band and sensor from the wheel after getting one side of the tire off the rim then they put it back in before reseating the new tire. This technique worked pretty good.

Thanks, now I have something to go with at least. It's a great system and is very important to me and I've heard the parts are hard to come by. :beer

I had it on my '92 (my son has it now) and it still works. The sensors are very hard to find and I don't think anyone is making new ones.

The low profile tires on the late C4 are very hard to tell when they are low on air until it's too late. So I'm with you, it's a great system and an important safety feature whether you have run-flats or not on the car.

Tuna is correct on the TPS locations and procedure. Just remember, each TPS is for a specific wheel, so don't mix them up. The labels (each a diffent color) will have the location on them. There are used ones out there, but remember that GM changed the C4 TPS system, so don't purchase a pre 1993 replacement for your vette if one gets damaged. There are plenty of threads on CAC about this.
