Lumbar support failure on 94 Coupe Power Seats

Hi fellas,

Need some guidance. My power seats work just fine as far as position, height, etc... but my lumbar support, side wings, etc dont work at all on either seat.

The manual directs me to the ground connection 202. Where is it, and do you have any other ideas outside of fuse failure that I should look at?

Thanks in advance.

It will probably end up being the switch in your seat. Both of mine were bad, the contacts burn from arcing over time. I was able to take both of mine apart an clean them and get them to work, but I was also reuphostering my seats at the same time.

You can verify this by lifting the seat cushion to get to the connector and jumpering 12v and gnd to the connector to see if the motor will move. Connecting one way will run the motor one direction, reversing will run the other way.

Good luck.

Lumbar troubleshooting

Thanks Berky. I will check it out. Anything I need to know about taking the center console out to get at the switch?

You know, sometimes I need to pay more attention to the year we are discussing. Mine being an early C4 has individual rocker switches down in the leg bolsters, while I forgot that all of your switch controls are located in the center console.

Your switch is a good bit more complicated. It actually has a circuit board with capacitors and terminal connections. I found it difficult to get to the backside of that switch in a 1990 coupe without pretty much removing all of the center console. Because there are two connectors down under that carpet that are hard to get to without removing the seat and tunnel cover.

I would recommend checking the bolster motor as I mentioned at the connection under the seat first, it might save some time tearing things apart. Once you are sure that the motor works, then you can work your way back to the switch. If there is enough slack in your cable, you may be able to lift the switch some without removing everything. If not...

There are 4 hidden screws in the storage compartment of the center console. You have to peel back the compartment liner at the corners, then pry up a plastic oval cover to get to each screw. It took quite a while to figure that out the first time I did it, it was still a pain the second time even when I knew where they were.
