My 99 has about 44k miles and for the last few thousand miles, it seems the shifting has gotten a little stiff. I figure it's about time to change the fluid anyway, and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on fluids that will help smooth out the shifting.

I used to have a high-mileage MR2 that would grind every time I shifted into 2nd, and I put some Redline MTL and after a few hundred miles it shifted great. Would that be ok to put in a vette? Or does anyone have experience with another weight of Redline? Or any other brand?

Thanks

Hi there,
After you check your shifter adjustment, then I would change the fluid.
First, any Dexron 3 automatic transmission fluid will do the trick.
If you chose, you can run Redline D4 ATF. This has a higher coefficient of friction, to slow down the syncro spin down rates.
This has been shown on some cars to smooth out some shifts.

my car is a manual transmission...sorry, i guess i wrote that in the subject line but not down in the message. do you have a recommendation for manuals?

thanks

OK, thanks. I had no idea the standards were using automatic fluid. I'll try it.

Something funny.... . . ..

Even years ago when I had my '86 Dodge Shelby I called the dealer to see what kind of fluid to put in the 5 speed manual trans. They said use Dextron II ATF.
