My 2006 Z has the map lights (under the mirror) on all the time--the buttons don't work. The car automatically turns all lights off 20 minutes after shutting the engine off, but that's the ONLY way I found to get these lights off--anybody have this problem or any ideas?

Check your instrument panel dimmer knob. I've accidentally turned it on before. Took me awhile to figure it out.

Hey guys,

This maybe all wrong since mine is a C5 - but that little light behind the mirror comes on when the light level gets low. It actually casts a little light on the console. It also comes on when you open the doors. Because mine is a convertible it doesen't have any traditional map lights so maybe it's configurred differently. Just my 2 cents.

I did that and spent a long time trying to sort it ... just the dimmer knob and its easy to switch the mirror lamps by mistake and it over-rides the switches on the mirror!

Tony, you and Ms Smith were both right--I am pretty dumb! But at least an easy fix... I am really glad I don't have to take it in the the dealer. Thanks!

I had the same problem with my C6 on the day that I bought it. I even tried reading the owners manual, and I never read the owners manual. My wife and my neighbor searched for a long time trying to figure out why the map lights couldn't be turned off. I did go to my local dealer, not the dealer where I bought it, at 8pm that night. I was lucky because a salesman had another car come back right after it was driven off of the lot with the same question previously so he knew it was just the dimmer switch that turned it off. I felt like a fool, but it was driving me crazy. I have since bumped the switch with my leg getting in and out of the car and have noticed the lights were on, atleast I now know how to turn them off.
