I'm thinking of buying a mask/bra for my vette to protect my paint. Do any of you have suggestions about what brands are worthe the money?

I have a color-coordinated Speed Lingerie for my Grand Sport and really like it. My husband recently bought a 2002 convertible and has been reluctant to spend that kind of money for a Speed Lingerie so I went ahead and ordered one for him...he doesn't know anything about it, so don't tell him!!

One of the biggest drawbacks of a bra (other than being just plain ugly for daily use!) is if it doesn't fit the car very tightly. If there's any play, that play can cause paint damage by slapping against the car at high speeds. The SL bra/mask fits the car literally like a glove.

There are many brands out there, and I'm sure you'll hear from those who have them. Whichever you buy, don't make a habit of using it just around town...trips are the only time the bra goes on my Diva! Also, if you happen to get caught in the rain, be sure to take the bra off as soon as possible and thoroughly dry the car.

Good luck!

I too, have a speed langerie bra for my 03 AE. Can't believe they could match the color as good as they did. I personally don't like a car with a bra, but we're doing some traveling in ours so I figured if I were going to buy one, I'd buy one that blended in with the color of the car. I'v also heard about a clear plastic material from 3M that is permanently installed. Unfortunately, there are no installers in this area. Once this is installed, it isn't noticable since it is clear. Up close you can see a line where the clear plastic ends. If you are interested in this, you can check out the forums at www.50thregistry.com . The cost for this is about $150 more than the speed langerie.
Good luck.

I'm looking to purchase a mask for the same reason (i.e. highway travel). Looking through mostly the MID America catalogue, I'm trying to find the best quality backing-material that won't damage the car's suface. You have some great suggestions above that need to be taken into consideration. Here's my two cents worth:

1. As mentioned before, make sure it's only used for highway travel. Take it off as soon as you're done "carving the highway roads." Leaving it on for long periods of time will allow the sun to fade the bare portions of the car and not the portions under the mask.....result, two-tone Vette. Also, make sure you're car doesn't get wet while the mask is on (mentioned by "GS Diva"). This will damage the finish.

2. Keep a few coats of wax on the car if you plan to use your mask. This will minimize the amount of damage (if any) done directly to your paint.

I'm still searching as well, so good luck....I'll need it too!:beer

I have heard from many good sources that the GM bra for under $100 is as good as you can get. Granted, it's black, and only looks sort of good on a 'black' car, but if it protects....that's what we are looking for. Just my .02 worth. :cool :pat

To Sooo Bad

Does the GM mask cover the headlamp doors? That's one of the most vulnerable places next to the bumper, of course. I tried to buy one from them when I first got my car and all they had were the ones that just covered the bumper. That's why I began looking elsewhere. If they have new styles, then under $100 is the way to go!

I have a mini-mask I bought from Eckler's I'd like to get rid of. Brand new in the box for $30 or best offer :D , I paid I think $80 + s/h. I bought it when I had my 91 repainted. Sold the vette a month later, so i never installed it. My current one has too many chips on it already to worry about protecting it. If you install a mask make sure the bumper is cleaned and waxed. Take it off and let dry if it ever becomes wet. Only use them on road trips, take them off if you are not driving the car.
