I need some help identifying a C2 body kit I saw today.
It was on a 63. No chrome bumpers.
Huge whale tail on the rear. 6 rear lites.
Fixed front head lites, (under the front bumper.)

Nice looking car. (no more split window, though).

Thinking about trading the shark for it.

personally I never heard of a kit like that but who knows. Chances are it's just a very modified '63.
any modifications that extensive really affect the value of the car though.
From the looks of it your C3 is very nice. I wouldn't trade it for a modded '63 such as you described but that's just me. If this '63 is the type of custom that floats your boat than what my preferences are don't matter than.

I've always wanted a Midyear, and I don't have enough room (or money) for two vettes at this time. So I wouldn't feel bad about letting the shark go.

Now, about the body kit. I'm not a huge fan. I'd like to take it back closer to stock. I think the front headlight buckets were just filled in, so simply cutting them out and putting the headlights were they belong (then adding a new chrome bumper) will do the trick.

It has rear wheel flares that I really like. Big, fat wheels. :cool

I just don't like the rear bumper area. I'd like for that to go back to stock, and add the chrome bumper.

Is that feasible? Mostly body work, that I stink at. Also, the center spine is gone! Could it be added back? Can you find split windows NOS?

Finally, and this may be crazy, but I know its possible with sharks....
Can you take a midyear coupe, and make it into a vert?

I don't care about originality. I'm not worried about resale.
I'ts got a 74 SB in it now.... I'll probably drop a crate motor in it in the future. The interior is great.
I'm a dork for not taking pictures, but the guy only lives 5 miles from me, so it'll be easy enough to stop by and get some for ya'll to look at.

I have not driven it, as hes in the process of putting on sidepipes. :cool

TIA!

if you can't do the bodywork yourself it's going to be pricy to get the back end and the headlight buckets back to a stock condition but hey, with enough time and money anything is possible:)
I suppose somebody may be able to convert it to a vert but seriously if you want a vert than find another car that is for what something like that will cost you.

Getting headlights back in might cost 5000 bucks alone....

450 for each motor, buckets might be availbale for some 1000 Dollars and will need revising for 200 Dollars (for the turning parts). Fiberglas repair (guess the backside of the holes will have been emptied) will cost 400 in parts + cabling and switch some 200. Bumpers will add 450 each plus the mounting parts some 250 (incl. lic plate bar). Some 300 for the grille and you are at 3.700....add some work and paint...and there you are.

Go for the better car....always cheaper.

Unless you like the looks of the car as it is.

Well I would say if you loved it as a custom then get it. If your just trying to get an afourdable midyear and build it back to stock I would say pass on it. returning one of these cars to stock appearing is very exspencive. Order a paragon reproductions catalog and start pricing out the parts,Parts alone will add up quick.then you still have to have them installed.

None of the replacement parts are cheap.

Good luck.

I have built a few cars over the years,And allthough I enjoy building them more then going to shows in them.

I have never built a car for less money then I could purchase one completely DONE for.

Now there are some advantages to building a car over purchasing one done.

1-you know what the car has and what its made of
2-You get to give sweat equity into it, to raise its value(doing the work your self)
3-Your able to slowley invest money into it (who could afford to plunk down 30-40 thousand on a pleasure car)
4-You get to say I built it my self

But again the big problem is,it will always cost you more to build one then to get one done Trust me I know this as a fact.

Good Luck

Very true about the cost of returning the headlights to stock. The parts prices alone will shock you........and there are many, many parts. :crazy

And don't forget to mention that some of these parts also need to be ground or drilled out to finish them as they weren't all done at the manufacturer. I seem to remember a few choice adjectives were used at times and not undeservingly either;)
